"Scent Of Lilacs" by Ann H. Gabhart

"Scent Of Lilacs" by Ann H. Gabhart gets 5 stars from me. I have to be honest and say I was shocked that this story contained 2 curse words, 1 was only used once and the other was used 7 times on 2 pages and then 1 other time. I know the reason and it fits the story but I was shocked. This story shows that love between a father and daughters and God's love is what really matters in a person's life.
Jocie's mother left in the middle of the night with Jocie's sister, leaving her father to raise Jocie. David, Jocie's father, was a preacher who also ran the local newspaper office. He is trying to found a church that wants him full time. One member in the church is really against him but why? I will leave that to you to discover for yourself. Aunt Love was living with them and she was always quoting Bible verses to Jocie, but forgot most other things. Jocie had two prayers that she prayed the most for (a dog prayer and a sister's prayer. One day a dog found her and then the next day her sister came home. Her sister has a secret and the dog was digging in a cave and discover a secret from Aunt Love's past. When  I read Aunt Love's secret I really felt her pain and thought "How could someone be so cruel"?
When Jocie learns a secret about herself she runs away and a storm happens and she finds shelter in a church but then she smells lilacs and God leads her out of the church right before a tornado destroyed the church. I wish this book was first in a series of books I want to know more about David and Jocie and Aunt Love and Tabitha (Jocie's sister) and the other character's in this story. I would recommend this book to mature teens and adults.
I was given a free copy of this book by the publisher via The Book Club Network (bookfun.org) for an honest review
