"Amish Park" by Thomas Nye

Pete Heller and his wife Lisa are successful in their careers but have failed in love and marriage. Their oldest daughter, Carrie, is sixteen and has already succumbed to a bitter heart, a byproduct of a dysfunctional family. Ten-year-old Natalie is the only family member that hasn’t “fallen” from innocence and she has one last hope to rescue her loved ones from the dark direction they are headed, a broken home. A theme park, called Amish Park, that her friend’s family visited and loved, seems like the solution to her. Amish Park is a paid tourist destination that offers modern families an opportunity to “live” the Amish lifestyle for one week. Pete and Lisa reluctantly agree to visit, both thinking that this would be their last family vacation together.

They had no idea that God had other plans.







My Review:
"Amish Park" by Thomas Nye is a really short 79 page story about a family that is in trouble. In an attempt to stop her parents from getting a divorce, Natalie sends a letter to an Amish theme park for one more family vacation.  But, wait there seems to be a mistake but is it really or is it  God's plan.

I really enjoyed this story because it could be "true to life" for many families.

This book points out several lessons that could be used in our lives to improve communication. I think it is interesting that the husband learns these lessons from learning about horses and an Amish man.

This story shows that first impressions are sometimes wrong and that we all could learn from others that are different from us.

I am adding the rest of this author's books, Thomas Nye, to my to be read list, since I have read a few of them and have really enjoyed them.

I recommend "Amish Park" to any reader that wants a short easy to follow read that makes the heart smile.

Thomas Nye was born in Ames, Iowa, in 1961 with a love for horses. Though he grew up in town, he took every opportunity to visit friends and family that lived on farms, especially if they had horses. During grade school Thomas developed an interest in history, reading anything he could find about the 1800s. As a teenager, he moved to an area with a large Amish population and was instantly infatuated by that lifestyle. His love of farm, history, and horses all came together in real-life experiences with his Amish friends, who also happen to share his Christian faith. Thomas purchased draft horses from Amish farmers in his neighborhood and set out to learn the art of working with horses in harness. After years of buying, selling and trading work horses with Amish farmers in his community, Thomas had many wonderful memories of those experiences. The Amish Horses Book Series is a set of novels based on those adventures. Under the Heavens was published in December of 2013, Catbird Singing in January of 2015, and English River in August of 2016.
