My Review:
"The Deceived" by Kelly Harrel is a story about Danny Morton. Danny wants to be a screenplay writer and is really good at it. He has a problem. It is his father who wants him to make a career of baseball. He is a great shortstop but he really hits the game. His father makes him feel he isn't good enough. So he starting drinking and because of an injury be gets hooked on drugs.

This book shows that there are many Christians that just plays the part and wants to look good on the outside for others but no really good on the inside. This book brought up many feelings from my past, I have felt insecure and unworthy and etc. I am just glad I never took the road that Danny did but I can easily understand his choices.

This book shows clearly that you can't judge people by what you think you know about them like with Brett, a character who in the beginning of the story, Danny is very critical of him.

This book is about drug usage, alcohol usage by teens and the pressure to have unmarried sex. I would recommend this book to mature teens and adults. I think parents should read this book to understand more of what their children are facing today and to remind them that we all need to be accepted for who we are not how we can make them look better to the outside world.

I am including this quote from the author's note at the beginning of the novel " This novel became a personal reminder that lukewarm Christianity can destroy those we love the most." This novel certainly does show that.

I am going to include a few quotes to show that even through this book deals with all the negative issues that teens deal with, it also shows how God relates to us " God keeps following us, even when we hate Him" and " He wants us to be on His Side." and, "You're never too bad for God to love you."

My two favorite quote are
" I realized what matters the most is He sees me for who I am-His creation, royalty because He is the King Of Kings. I'm chosen, redeemed, His beloved..... Nothing can separate me from His love or cause Him to love me less. And when He said, 'Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone,' I realized everyone is messed up in some way. Everyone has insecurities, downfalls, and sins we struggle with.".
"God sees your hurt.He cares about what you're going through. Even if you feel like no one understands or loves you, He does, and He wants us to share that love with others. To sit with the kids who are alone at lunch, to talk to the kid others make fun of to pray for those who push you away. You non't need to be a spiritual giant to a friend, you just need to step out of your comfort zone. Life is easier when go through it together."

So, I think this book is really a good reminder to us that life is hard and that God does love us regardless of our age.

The novel doesn't end on a good note, Danny has not given up his bad choices but there are more novels coming and I am on my way to Amazon to check out the "Lauren Drake Series" because the  "Once Lost series" is a spinoff from that series.

I fell in love with Danny Morton when I first heard his voice at two am. His biting remarks made me laugh and cringe at the same time. They also made me jump up to take notes. Maybe because once upon a time I was a sarcastic teen who lived too much in my own mind. Or maybe because I had a lot of questions about God at his age too. Like Danny, I yearned for a close relationship with God even though I felt surrounded by hypocrites. Yes, I fell in love with Danny from the very beginning. It was impossible not to. His passion is inspiring. Even as young as he is, he has a dream he’s determined to pursue. All he wants is to write, which is also something I can understand. As soon as I began writing his story, I knew there were a lot of deeper issue to deal with. Being the mother of two teens, I’ve seen firsthand how independent they can be. They have their own ideas, personalities, and desires. Two questions came to mind. Why do teens raised in the church fall into drugs and alcohol and fall away from the Lord? Is there a way to prevent it? Finding no simple answers, I cried out to the Lord to help me understand. I asked Him to give me Danny’s story to teach and inspire others. That’s when not only Danny but his entire family came alive to me. I thought the most disturbing thing about The Deceived might be Danny’s drugs and alcohol abuse. Yet with each revision of the book, something else became more disturbing—the way his family treated him. This novel became a personal reminder that lukewarm Christianity can destroy those we love the most. I pray this young adult novel will be picked up by all generations. Parents should examine their own relationship with the Lord, how they treat their teens, and the pressures their teens face every day. My prayer is that teens will find a friend in Danny as well as the determination to recognize and stand against the temptations they face. One of my favorite scenes in The Deceived is when Danny goes to a party the day after Thanksgiving. Not being a very social guy, he comes up with a hilarious way to identify people. You might need to search different types of trees while you read the scene but you will laugh out loud. While Danny has a lot of great one-liners, the conversations I enjoyed writing the most were those between him and his sister, Lydia. I was blessed with a great relationship with my older brother in our teen years, and those conversations remind me of our late-night talks. The Deceived will make you laugh, cry, and consider family dynamics and your faith in a new way. And when you get to the last page, remember, there’s more to come.

My Review

I don't think I have read "A Tale Of Two Cities" but after reading "The Seamstress" by Allison Pittman, I definitely want to. I loved this story. It is a story filled with sorrow and love and neutral and forgiveness. The story is fast paced and this reader was swept into the story from the start. It was a story that makes you grateful for what you have. This is a story that really pulls at your heart strings because the scenes are written so well about the French Revolution and the hardships it cause. I could actually see it unfolding in my mind as I read. I loved how the clothing Renee sewed was part of the story. If you haven't read the story and you have no interest in sewing, you might these details would be boring, but these items are describing in a way that I would love to see them.

I would love to watch this novel come alive in a movie or a television series.

My dream of being an author began by “finishing” other author’s works, fleshing out the stories of neglected characters. When I read the final books in the Little House series, I was far more interested in Cap Garland than I was in Almonzo Wilder, and I imagined all kinds of stories in which he was the hero. This, The Seamstress, is one of those stories that came to me in a single burst of thought. I was teaching my sophomore English class, discussing through the final scenes in A Tale of Two Cities, when the little seamstress in those final pages reached out to me. She is a nameless character, seemingly more symbolic than anything. Dickens, however, gives her an entire backstory in a single phrase: I have a cousin who lives in the country. How will she ever know what became of me? I remember pausing right then and there in front of my students and saying, “Now, there’s the story I want to write.” Now, years later, I have. While every word of every Charles Dickens novel is a master class in writing, what he gave to me for The Seamstress is the kind of stuff that brings life and breath to fiction. I have to convey the fact that any character on my pages—no matter how much story space he or she is allotted—has a life between them. Every man was once a child; every woman a vulnerable young girl. So, Dickens gave me the bones of the story. A seamstress. A cousin in the country. A country ripped apart; family torn from family. I did my very best to put flesh on those bones, but no writer can ever bring the life and breath. Only a reader can do that.

My Review

I really liked "Leaving Darkness" by Greg Schaffer but I have a few concerns about the book. I know some people will think these aren't real concerns but for me to give an honest reviews I have to mention them. These are few curse words, yes I know the character saying them isn't a believer, but I don't like reading these in the books I read. Another concern is a recovering alcoholic owes a bar and he is Lowell Ferguson's sponsor from the group. The problem I have is how can you own a bar and serve alcoholic to others when you know what it can do. I know this a judgement call on my part, but I am just being honest here, and yes I know you can be around alcoholic and not drink but this bar owner even puts Jack Daniels in his hamburgers that is sold in his bar. Ok, enough of what I didn't like about the story and on to what I did like. I am giving this book 4 stars. It is a good story.

This story is a wonderful story of how your life can change if you really turn it over to God. I like the fact that Lowell learns that feelings aren't neither good or bad, but it is what you do with them that matters. I like the fact that the author's own encounter with a Christian Support group inspired this novel. I would call this a feel good story although it didn't start out that way.

This book is about giving forgiveness to others and to yourself.

I like the ending of this book and would read a sequel to it because I want to read more about these characters, especiallyAlan because the way the book ended. No. it wasn't a cliff hanger, just left me wanted to know more about how his story goes.

As first a group participant and then a volunteer for Restore Small Groups for many years, I’ve seen firsthand the healing power of small group ministries. Many want to change but don’t know how. Leaving Darkness tells the fictional story of one lost in depression to the point of contemplating suicide who happens upon such a Christian-based ministry. Although he is reluctant at first, he gives the process a chance, and through it leaves his darkness, finds his faith, and becomes the person God meant for him to be. I was called to write this story in hope that someone with similar struggles may read Leaving Darkness and realize that there is a way out of the darkness when everything else has failed.

My Review:

"More Than Meets the Eye" by Carrie Daws is a short read and I recommend it to all who like real life stories and to those you wants to know the struggles that military wives face. I was really drawn into the story but the story ended with me wanting more. It felt like it ended suddenly. That might be because Lori has a change in her and maybe that is really what the story is more than the issues with her husband.

I would so like to read more of Lori's and her husband's story.

This is written like someone is watching the scenes instead of being part of the action but I am giving it three stars.

My favorite quote from the book is "I guess it's just God making changes inside of me. The outside stuff is still hard, and I still have to remind myself every day that God is in control. But I don't have to fight to believe it every second I'm awake anymore."

My Review

I have nothing but praise for "When Life Doesn't Match Your Dreams" by Jill Eileen Smith. I have loved every book that I've read that she's written, but this one really is the best. Maybe because she uses twelve woman from the Bible to show us that whatever we are going through in life is nothing that others haven't experienced and shows us that hope is available through our Lord. I so wish I could afford this book for every woman I know, because I believed every woman should have this book available to them whenever they think they can't go on in the trials and struggles that life gives, whether it's their fault or the results of others.

I think all women will find a little of herself in each of the twelve women stories. I know the situations and facts will be different but the reasons and feelings are familiar to all of us women at one time or another.

I think if I had to choose one book that was all I was allowed to read and keep, and never read another book, It wouldn't be hard to choose, I would most definitely choose "When Life Doesn't Match Your Dreams" by Jill Eileen Smith. I can say that now but I am all ready for her second book about twelve more women from the Bible.

This book is twelve stories and also Jill Smith shares some of her personal struggles.

My Review

"The Amish Candy Maker " by Laura V. Hilton is a wonderful story about believing wrong things about oneself. Agnes believes her father that she will never marry because her one suitor choose someone else. There is also the fact that she has started her own business, a candy shop after her family is all killed in a fire. Isaac believes he is not a good person because of an accident that happened in the past. These two meet because Isaac comes to town to take care of his brother and sister's law children.

This story shows that you can't believe what others say but you have to follow your dreams and the most important thing is to forgive yourself.

This is an Amish clean love story but the passion gets intense at time.

This story shows that there are Amish women that aren't always soft spoken and doesn't always do what the Bishop says to do.

My favorite quote from the book is "Let prayer be the key to the day and the bolt to the nacht." I also like the fact that the author points this out " I think maybe Gott doesn't mind you getting mad and yelling. He knows you're hurting and He wants us to feel free enough with Him to let our emotions loose. Perhaps that's the only way healing takes place. Gott takes that anger and works with it to turn it into peace with the situation and you ultimately kum to the realization that He works all things together for gut."

Isaac knows he wants to marry Agnes almost as soon as he meets her, but she is not so sure.

This book shows that sometimes you have to just have to forgive and be true to yourself and that sometimes things don't work out just the way you planned, sometimes it turns out better than you planned.

RECIPE FOR FUDGE À LA AGNES ZOOK Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Fudge Courtesy of Laura V. Hilton 1 bag (12 ounces) milk chocolate chips 1 bag (10 ounces) peanut butter chips 2 cans sweetened condensed milk, divided 6 tablespoons butter, divided 20 to 30 miniature Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or six regular-size ones broken into four or five pieces each For the chocolate layer: Line a greased 8-by-11.5-inch baking dish with parchment paper. In a double boiler or metal bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, combine milk chocolate chips, 1 can sweetened condensed milk, and 4 tablespoons butter. Stir until melted and smooth. Pour into prepared baking dish and allow to cool to room temperature, then move to the refrigerator while preparing next layer. For the peanut butter layer: In a double boiler or metal bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, combine peanut butter chips, 1 can sweetened condensed milk, and 2 tablespoons butter. Stir until melted and smooth. Pour on to the milk chocolate fudge layer and press pieces of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups into the surface. If desired, group candy pieces in a grid-like fashion for easier cutting later. Allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate overnight or until set. Remove from refrigerator, lift out of the pan by the edges of the parchment paper, and cut into squares, with roughly one miniature peanut butter cup or piece of a cup per square. Store in the refrigerator.
