"The Sinner in Mississippi" by D.L. Lane is a book that is filled with the evil of man, well, I guess I should say mankind, because there are evil women in this book also. This is a story about forgiveness and shows what real love is. 

The author does give a warning about triggers at the beginning of the novel, for those who could be affected by “violent acts and sexual assault” but the scenes are written in a way that isn't really graphic, the violent acts are a little more detailed than the sexual assaults.  

This book is not a fun read but well worth the tears that might be running down your cheeks while reading.  I recommend this book to readers who like Christian fiction and Historical fiction.

I knew, I was going to like this book as soon as I opened the first page and read this before the story even started because I knew it was going to be a tale of "Beauty From Ashes" and it certainly was.  I am going to include what I read because it truly is what Mississippi Singleton learns.

He's there, waiting for you to acknowledge Him."  I just felt tingles again when I was writing that for this review because the more I reflect on that I have to say it is true, because it happened in my life and is happening everyday in my life.

I have so much in common with Mississippi, not her life circumstances, but I have been sexually attacked and I was told that I didn't have the sense God gave a goose, both of these were by someone that I trusted.  I also felt unwanted by others that was supposed to love me, maybe that is why this book has really touched me deeply.

About the Author

D.L. Lane is a wife, musician, a graduate of Liberty University, and a member of American Christian Fiction Writers. In 2010 she walked away from the day job and started a writing career using a pen name. As far as the world was concerned, she was very successful writing romances, however, success aside, she knew she wasn’t on the right path but stubbornly kept on going for nine years. Although a Christian and raised in a religious home, D.L went her own way, leaving God out of her choices until He said, “Enough.”
Weary and seeking guidance, she finally listened and left the course she was on as an established novelist to take a new path—putting God first in her life where He always should have been.

I love writing, and I love to challenge myself as an author, and so I thought, why not write a fictional historical piece. This was a test for me since there are many things to research when writing during a different era, especially when I wasn’t around at that time. But I prayed about it, grabbed my laptop, and started writing about a poor, uneducated girl who grew up in Louisiana during the Great Depression in a motherless home with a group of reprobate males.
Not unlike the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis, a boy despised by his brothers who plotted against him, later rose from the depths to become one of the most powerful men in Egypt, facing the very men who had been responsible for the atrocities he’d suffered. Joseph had a choice. Let them die or help the ones who never helped him? This story weaves some of that same treachery with truth, teaching not only the heroine but the hero the ultimate meaning of love.

I wanted to give readers a book demonstrating the fact God will never leave us, even if we have left him for a time. That a personal relationship with Christ is our ultimate source of strength, and with His help, we can be pulled out of the depths of great sorrow, rising to heights we never imagined possible.

"Blush" by Danielle Ripley-Burgess is a book that I was totally unprepared for because I never read what the books are about when I read them for Celebrate Lit tours.  From the title, I assumed it was going to be a love story.  Well, in a way, it is because the author learns to love herself and her body and her gifts and God. But, this story is more a memoir about her growing up into womanhood and all that includes, such as wearing a bra and all the other things woman did. But, it is also about her journey with colon cancer (something the internet called an “old man’s disease”).

I really recommend this book to all female readers that are troubled by their body image, but especially tweens and teens. But, I will also give warning that if you are someone you know is battling or have had cancer this book might make you cry.
Yes, I admit I cried, it brought to memories my mom's struggle of 7 years with cancer, though hers was breast, bone and lung cancer.  Not that the memories weren't in the back of my mind anyway, this book just made them harder to keep hidden there. I still recommend this book because it does help to be reminded that we are never alone in our troubles.  I appreciate how the author shares how she questioned God why!

I really pray that this tour helps gets this book into reader's hands that needs to read it and that it gives hope to those that needs it.

The author is so honest in sharing her beliefs and actions.

P.S. This is the first book that was written about cancer that I truly recommend to all. Most of the others I was ok read it if you but I will be trying to get the library to buy a couple and am thinking of giving my copy to my granddaughters to read!

I walked into the classroom, hung my backpack on a designated hook and glanced at the chalkboard as I took my seat. Sigh. It was spelling bee day. I’d dreaded it for weeks.
Most people probably didn’t realize I loathed the spelling bee, especially my teacher. As a book-loving student who aced nearly all English exams, anyone could have rightly assumed I would be jazzed about the competition. I was a great candidate to represent our class. But there was one little problem: it sounded like a nightmare. I wanted nothing to do with it. The idea of the whole school looking at me on stage—the chance of people noticing the zits on my face, seeing a bra underneath my shirt, or calling me a nerd because I was a strong speller—sounded awful. No thanks.
“Riiinnngggg”
A buzzer echoing throughout the hallways kicked off our school day. My teacher, dressed in a popular floral dress from the 1990s, walked to the chalkboard to take control of our classroom. The pledge of allegiance, math worksheets and recess distracted me from the schedule until the dreaded hour came.
“Everyone please stand up, push in your chairs and join the circle,” my teacher insisted as she waved her hands to gather us. It was time.
Fortunately, I had a plan: I was going to cheat.
If my spelling test grades were any indicator, I had a good chance of making the spelling bee. So, I decided to purposely spell my word wrong. I would use a wrong vowel toward the end of the word and pause to hear, “I’m sorry but that’s incorrect.”
Let’s just say my plan worked like a charm. Relief flooded my chest when I was asked to sit down and join the others who were knocked out of the competition. A few weeks later during the school-wide spelling bee, I deeply exhaled and smiled widely as I watched my classmates compete on stage from the gymnasium floor. I was so glad it was them and not me.
Today, 25 years later, this memory is both a victory and a tragedy. I can’t help but see my younger self, a tween girl who felt embarrassed about her body, and feel proud of her for identifying what she did and didn’t want. That moment in fifth grade helped her find her voice. Yet her empowerment came at a high cost.
Convinced that hiding her true self—her body, her smarts and her opinions—was the only way, this thinking led to her nearly losing her life. If I could go back and chat with her today, I’d affirm her fears yet encourage her to see God gave her the smarts—being a strong speller and a good writer is a gift and not a bad thing. I’d challenge her to accept herself and say that dominating the school-wide spelling bee could actually be a great thing.
Blushis a memoir that tells many other stories like my fifth grade spelling bee. The book is dedicated to my daughter, who is just now becoming a tween. As I’ve relived my life by writing this book, I’ve not only found nuggets of truth to pass on to her as she navigates adolescence, but also confidence and redemption in my story.
Many of us have believed the lie that to be accepted, we must hide. I wrote Blushnot only for my daughter, but for anyone looking for inspiration and hope. It’s a book especially for those who are ready to finally face their insecurities and consider how to stop sitting it out and instead take the stage.

"Lady Airell’s Choice" by Rachel Skatvold is another great book. It left me wanting to read the rest of the stories. It is a tale of great sacrifices. Every character, minus one very evil king, makes sacrifices for the good of others.  I am going to have to read the other three in this series now because I have to find out the answers to questions that I have concerning some of the characters, well, let me be honest, I want to know more about all these characters.

The ending of this book has me crying and saying "It isn't fair at something that happened  and clapping my hands at something else that happened, I would only be clapping at this happening in the world of fiction, when this happens in real life my heart is saddened.

This book would make a great movie that my husband would watch and I would even watch it with him, we don't like the same movies, but this one I think would be a win for both of us, if it followed the story.

This book is a tale that once again shows that God can work all things for our good.

The Ladies of Ardena Series has been by far my favorite series to write because the stories are adventurous fast-paced tales with themes of faith, hope and redemption. While I am more well-known for my contemporary western and small-town romance series, I have always been interested in history and fascinated with the medieval time period. Although Ardena is a fictional land, it is inspired by Irish and Scottish culture, in honor of my ancestors. Each book is also inspired by one of my six nieces and is dedicated to them. "You are Loved & Free" by Micah Ruth is Ruth"s own story of  experiences of feeling not good enough and accepted. Some of her stories made me want to cry especially the one about her daughter as a baby. She shares the spiritual lessons that God has shown her from the truth in the Bible especially Ephesians. The book is really centered on finding our identity. I like that there are questions for reflection, written prayers, and teaching on Scripture passages. This book really does show that God loves and accepts us and it isn't based on what we do or don't do!

"Glimpses of God, A Winter Devotional for Women” is the first book in  “Glimpses of God” series by  Shirley Crowder & Harried Michael. This book  is a book of devotions written for woman for the summer months. There are thirteen chapters with five days in each chapter. Each day starts with a short Scripture to read, then includes a  personal story and ends with a prayer and thought for the day.

Each devotion contains encouragement for the the season of summer both seasonal and Spiritually  we go through. I especially like the devotions that share songs and the encouraging thoughts that are shared about these songs. These devotions encourages us to keep looking to Jesus and to know that “Jesus is more than enough for us in every season of life.

These devotions focus on memories and worry and issues we all faced.

Even though these titles mention a certain season, I think these books can be useful anytime. 

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the “Glimpses of God” series!

About the  Authors

Shirley Crowder was born in a mission guest house under the shade of a mango tree in Nigeria, West Africa, where her parents served as missionaries. She and co-author Harriet E. Michael grew up together on the mission field and have been life-long friends. Shirley is passionate about disciple-making, which is manifested in and through a myriad of ministry opportunities: biblical counseling, teaching Bible studies, writing, and music.
She is a biblical counselor and is commissioned by and serves on the national Advisory Team for The Addiction Connection. She is an award-winning writer who has had several of her articles appear in “Paper Pulpit” inthe Faith section of The Gadsden Times, and in a David C. Cook publication. She also writes articles for Life Bible Study, Woman’s Missionary Union, The Addiction Connection and Inspired Prompt. She has authored, co-authored, or contributed to eight books.
Shirley has spiritual children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren serving the Lord in various ministry and secular positions throughout the world.




Harriet E. Michael was born in Joinkrama, Nigeria, deep in the African jungle in the Niger River delta, where her father served as the only missionary doctor at that station. A few years later, the mission moved the family to a larger hospital in Ogbomoso. Co-author Shirley Crowder and her family lived right across the dirt road. The two children became constant playmates. Today they continue to enjoy their lifelong friendship.
Harriet is a multi-published, award-winning writer and speaker. She has authored or co-authored seven books (six nonfiction and one novel) with several more under contract for future release. She is also a prolific freelance writer, having penned over 200 articles, devotions, and stories. Her work has appeared in publications by Focus on the Family, David C. Cook, Lifeway, Standard Publishing, Chicken Soup for the Soul, The Upper Room, Judson Press, Bethany House, and more. When not writing, she loves speaking to women’s groups and teaching workshops on freelance writing.
She and her husband of more than 40 years have four children and two grandchildren. When not writing, she enjoys substituting at a Christian school near her home, gardening, cooking, and traveling.

I always enjoy reading Carole Brown's books because I know I won't be shocked by reading a scene that I found unappropriate.

"Caleb’s Destiny "is a sweet love story. The main characters made me wish I knew each of them personally.

I recommend "Caleb's Destiny for readers who enjoy clean historical fiction. This story has intrigue, danger, secrets and adventure. It has Christian valves but not preachy.  I found myself wanting to get to the end because I had to know if Caleb and Destiny ever did meet again!  Now, I know you don't want me to reveal if they did or not, and so if you are curious or want to know, I strongly suggestion. you read this book and found out. 

This book is proof that even if your childhood wasn't the best, a person can still grow up to be caring individuals.

This is a great start to the series, I can't wait to read the entire series.

Once upon a time, there was a child—an expressive child who used her hands to convey her emotions and her imagination to talk with others, older people, and neighbors who found her amusing and relatives who loved her and encouraged her to develop her creativeness.

That child’s elementary fellow-students clapped when she gave childish presentations. She received good grades on her first written works of imagination in school. In high school, she and her best friend spent hours creating pensive and lovesick poems that they thought expressed their feelings.

Years later, that child/teen grew up. She married, birthed two sons, traveled and ministered alongside her husband and family then finally realized it was time to use her imagination and creative talents seriously. Although she was good at English, she soon learned she still had much to re-learn about writing novels. She joined critique groups, went to conferences and soaked in every bit of advice that came her way.

Today, she’s celebrating the release of her 10^thfull length novel, a new adventure because she ventured into writing an HistoricalWesternRomantic Suspense.

Caleb’s Destiny. She began this novel several years ago, thinking she might enter it into a contest, but didn’t finish it then. Last year was a tough year of little writing, but once 2020 hit, inspiration sprang into renewal, and she determined this would be the year to finish it. Finish it she did in two and half months.

Since I’m that little girl, all grown up, I’ll confess that I love using my God-given talent for Him. Developing stories that encourage, gently show God’s love and power and wisdom for his children is the best thing in the world. I love being an author. I love sharing with others the stories God places on my heart showing that faith and goodness will always prevail. I love knowing I’m using the talent God gave me.

This book had me from the second page! This book is filled of suspense and romance.  This book is the second book in the series and the second book that I read that was written by Dani Pettrey and I like it much more than I did the first book, "The Killing Tide". 

I think a reader could enjoy this as a standalone but I  recommend reading them in order, just to know the characters.  Each book features some of the main characters, but focus on two. A female and male who have a past and then meet up again in their job in the Cost Guard. 

These books certainly keep you guessing as to how it is going to end. 

I was given a contemporary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these are my opinions.
