"Awakening" by Beckie Lindsey Book Tour and GiveAway

About the Book

Book:  Awakening

Author: Beckie Lindsey

Genre: YA fiction

Release date: September 2020

Every girl has a secret she hopes the light will never find—but the demons already have.

As four high school girls are faced with life-altering decisions, their new-found faith will be tested. Although warrior angels are assigned to guard and assist the unlikely friends, they must rely on their faith to withstand the evil Duke Astaroth and the beast’s demonic horde.

Now that their spiritual eyes are open to daily battles between unseen forces of good and evil, lives are at stake.

  • Lifelong friends Krystal and Bryce are finally an official couple. But can their love survive the greatest trial they’ve ever faced?
  • Since Mackenzie’s mentally ill mother was hospitalized, she secretly worries that her deepest nightmare may come true.
  • While best friends Tammi and Sadie continue healing from their abusive pasts, each wrestles with temptations that threaten to undermine their recovery.

Can beauty arise from the ashes of despair and loss?

Will the girls embrace who and whose they truly are?

This is the fourth book in the "Beauties from Ashes"series. I really recommend reading them all in order  because they are continuation from the book before. This series might be a trigger for some readers because the subjects written about are incest and mental illness and suicide and self hurting and teen pregnancy.  This series isn't a fun read but I still recommend it because the characters are "real life" and I think the battle between  angels and demons are portrayed in a believable way even through the books are fiction.

I really identified with Mackenzie, because I like her mother had lots of hospitalization, because of my struggled with depression. Sometimes shame and guilt hit me so hard because of this, maybe that is why  I recommend these books so that others that have never struggled with this issue can understand a lit better the battle it is. Unlike her mother, I did believe in the Lord. I am so thankful that Jesus has helped me overcome the struggle with sucidal thoughts.

This book deals alot with forgiveness and the characters forcing each other to be truthful with themselves and with each other.

I think the study questions at the end of the book is great also!

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

Why I write YA and the BFA series

I believe a teenager still exists inside each of us.

We hear a familiar tune from our “glory days” and are instantly tapping our toes. Mentally, we’re back in high school —poofy bangs, scrunchie, neon off-the-shoulder sweatshirt — and all. Oh, wait. That’s me back in the ‘80s!

Ah, yes. There is something wonderfully awful about those coming-of-age years.

From the first kiss to the first breakup, there are memories we cherish and some we don’t care to ever revisit. Being a teen can be exciting, confusing, painful, joyous, or even all of those things at once!

No matter how different your teenage experience was from mine, one thing is true for us all: these years have an enormous impact on who we become as adults. We can all sympathize with the plight of puberty and the longing for independence and acceptance. Yeah, there’s still a teenager in all of us!

These are the reasons I write YA.

My hope is to use the power of storytelling to move past barriers and open hearts to accept how much God loves and desires a personal relationship with us.

At every age, we all need the grace and love of Jesus.

In the Beauties from Ashes (BFA) series, I write about relatable characters with difficult issues and traumatic pasts to enlighten readers about the unseen spiritual battle referred to in Scripture. Each character has a secret that has left them vulnerable to the battle in an invisible realm where demonic creatures fight to keep them chained to their pasts and angels of light work to free them.

The characters and their issues are complex, just like real life. In fact, some of the topics are often considered too taboo to talk about openly. But what is left in the dark, festers and grows. It is only in the light that we can be free. In the BFA series, readers experience the character’s quest for truth, love, grace, and freedom while hopefully finding the same for themselves.

"Dead Man's Watch" by Kay DiBianca is the second book in the "The Watch" Series. I suppose a reader could enjoy it without reading the first book but I reread "The Watch on the Fencepost" because it had been a while and I have read many books since I had read it. I am glad I did because it lets readers know the background of the sisters and etc.

These books are a clean read and have Biblical scriptures as part of clues used to solve the mysteries. There are lots of twists in this book.  I like that these books are free from graphic scenes and foul language.

This is such a profound statement from the book, it was made by  a Rabbi, when he was talking about Judah saving Joseph, " "Saving one life is like saving the whole world."

What an ending! I really didn't see it ending the way it did!.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own!

RUNNING AND WRITING

I’m a runner. Over the years I’ve discovered so many benefits from running, including improved health, good outlook, sense of well-being, and even a spark to creativity. That’s a lot to get from an investment in a pair of running shoes!

Of course, running is also a great metaphor for life. This one sport exemplifies so much that we experience in our lives: success, failure, injury, joy, and pain. So, it’s not surprising that although my books are not specifically about running, they contain running scenes.

I got the idea for my first mystery novel, The Watch on the Fencepost, while I was out running. The first chapter of that book introduces the main character, Kathryn Frasier, as she runs a five-miler while training for a marathon. Kathryn deals with the sorrow of her parents’ recent deaths by putting in hard miles on the trails around the fictional town of Bellevue. As I wrote that narrative, I could almost feel Kathryn’s effort, her struggle to maintain pace, the pain in the final sprint, and the satisfaction of finishing well.

The second book in the series, Dead Man’s Watch, takes place just a month or so after the first one. Kathryn continues her training by running a half-marathon race. Once more I run with her as she experiences the elation of being in the lead pack (I’ve never been there!), the exhaustion as the miles build up (I do know about this), and a dramatic event as she nears the finish.

I hope readers will see the analogy between the Kathryn’s experiences on the trails and her efforts to try to solve the mysteries in each story. I’m working on the third book in the series now. I haven’t written any running scenes yet, but I’m sure Kathryn’s going to insist on putting one in.

I receive a contemporary  copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these are my own opinions

About the Author

virginia-vaughan-HR-2Bestselling author Virginia Vaughan writes inspirational romantic suspense. Blessed to come from a large, southern family, her fondest memories include listening to stories recounted by family and friends around the large dinner table. She was a lover of books even from a young age, devouring gothic romance novels and stories of romance, danger, and love. She soon started writing them herself. A former investigator for the State of Mississippi, Virginia utilizes her criminal justice background with her love or writing to transform words into powerful stories of romance and danger.

More from Virginia

As writers, we discover many new and interesting things while researching a story. For TEXAS TARGET STANDOFF, I decided I wanted the hero to have a dog so I started looking at different photographs of dogs online until I found the one image I wanted to use—a sweet little border collie I named Bullet. He helps my navy SEAL hero find comfort and friendship while he’s recovering from injuries at his family’s ranch. But looking at dog photos on the internet did more than help my character grow, it also inspired me to adopt a dog of my own.

My home had been pet-free for many years since my beloved dog Miss Duchess died from cancer five years ago and, although the ten-year-old nephew I’m raising had been asking for a dog for about a year, I hadn’t reached the point of pulling the trigger and bringing another one home. Only the research I did for this book reopened that desire inside of me for canine companionship. In September of 2020, my son and I searched the shelters in search of a family dog and, when I spotted this adorable border collie mix, I knew we had to bring her home. We named her Ivy and, since joining our family, this sweet girl has brought us lots of love and laughter, plus a new adventure—dog training. I’ve never trained a dog in my life and little Ivy is a stubborn one. I’ve scoured YouTube for videos, taken classes, and worked daily on the simplest of commands like sit, wait, lie down. Slowly, we are making progress although barking, jumping, and walking on a leash are still some areas where we’re struggling.

I’d love to hear about your pets or your best training tips! To learn more about my family, including my training journey with Ivy, follow me on Facebook or subscribe to my newsletter at the links below. And look out for the next book—little sister Kellyanne’s story—in my Cowboy Lawmen series coming June 29, 2021.

Blessings!

"Broken to Beautiful" by Jeannine Bennett Book Tour and GiveAway

About the Book

Book:  Broken to Beautiful

Author: Jeannine Bennett

Genre: Christian Nonfiction

Release date:July 29, 2019

What do you do when life is unfair, all hope is lost and God seems absent?

Life does not always turn out the way we hope. It is often unfair, filled with hurt and rocked by disappointment. Even as Christians we find ourselves wondering if God is really there.

Jeannine Bennett is no exception; she understands all too well the struggles of life that hit so hard they take your breath away and leave you broken. But she’s also discovered that our greatest trials in life are always used by God for good, nothing we experience is ever wasted. In Broken to Beautiful, Jeannine invites us into her journey of how God captured her heart. With vulnerability, tenacity and humor, she helps us to recognize that brokenness is not the end of our story. God has a plan for each of us and it is beautiful. No matter how great your struggle, your loss, or your disappointment, God is still in control and his promises are real. She helps us understand that it’s not just our story its God’s story too.

Click here to get your copy!

"Broken to Beautiful"  by Jeannine Bennett is the author's own story and shows that God uses everything and knows everything.  I really like that the Biblical scriptures she shares for each chapter is listed in the back of the book.

After each chapter in the book , there is what the author's believe is God's outcome, and Scriptures and reflection questions. These questions would be a great discussion for a Woman's group or a great tool to start your own journal of self-reflation.

I really appreciate that the author wrote a honest testimony of her life and "How God Captured her Heart".

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

About the Author

Jeannine Bennett is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She is also the founder and CEO of Vision to Purpose, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, an adjunct faculty member in the School of Business for Liberty University Online, and an executive coach for The Honor Foundation.

To those who know Jeannine, she is simply a woman who loves Jesus, is devoted to her family, and struggles with life’s challenges like the rest of us. She is not immune to bad hair days, shrinking clothes (weight gain), or sleepless nights. She loves learning and sharing the knowledge acquired to help others learn too. Her favorite ice cream is a toss-up between butter pecan and mint chocolate chip. And, although she has lived in Virginia for more than 30 years, she still calls a water fountain a bubbler. A term she grew up saying in her hometown of Racine, Wisconsin.

More from Jeannine

“To Be a Light for Others”

People often ask why I chose to share such personal details of my life. Truth be told, to be a light for others. For years I wanted to write a book. It took me a long time to grow the courage necessary to begin the journey. Since I was sharing my testimony, I had to be okay with being vulnerable. I needed to be strong enough to reveal those intimate life details with others. The process became easier once I realized my story was God’s story, too!

Everyone goes through struggles in life, but those trials do not have to leave us broken. We can find hope, peace, and restoration with God, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Nothing we experience is ever wasted. God uses everything.

In Broken to Beautiful, you will find a series of events that read like a tragedy, comedy, drama, and horror show. It is full of hurt, deceit, grief, heartache, and devastation. However, thanks to God, it is also full of great joy, many blessings, countless rewards, lots of love, and a whole bunch of never-ending hope.

It is my sincerest desire that this book serves as a blessing to those who read it.

In Christ,

Jeannine

"Framed in Death Valley" by  Dana Mentink is another  page turner novel from her. This a story of second chances and forgiveness.

I really had no idea who had done the framing and why?

I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

If you haven't read any of Dana"s Mentink, I think this book would really help you to became one of her fans.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are mine own.

About the Author

danaDana Mentink is a two time American Christian Fiction Writers Carol Award winner, a Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award and a Holt Medallion winner. She is the Publisher’s Weekly bestselling author of over forty titles in the suspense and lighthearted romance genres. She is pleased to write for Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense, Harlequin Heartwarming and Poisoned Pen Press. Besides writing, she busies herself teaching third grade. Mostly, she loves to be home with Papa Bear, teen bear cubs affectionately nicknamed Yogi and Boo Boo, Junie, the  nutty terrier, and a chubby box turtle.

More from Dana

What’s up in Death Valley?

As the desert vistas opened up in front of Papa Bear and me, I felt an amazing sense of peace. Mind you, we were visiting Death Valley in the fall. No braving the 130 plus summer temperatures for this couple! I simply cannot describe to you the wonder I felt, as a  suburbanite from a bustling, noisy Northern California city. There is never a moment at home when I see only open horizon, when I hear nothing but quiet breezes. I was, quite simply, stunned.

I had done some research about places to visit as potential series settings, and Death Valley was at the top of the list. The websites did not disappoint. Artist’s Palette, the gorgeous peak painted in a rainbow of rock colors? Check! Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, glistening with salt and not so lifeless as one might think…check! How about my favorite moment…jouncing along the precarious trail through Titus Canyon? Check! Would all of these incomparable locations be suitable for a six book suspense series? Roger that!

It’s ironic that I felt so welcomed by such an inhospitable locale. Visiting is one thing, but it takes a certain rugged breed of individuals to live in such a hostile climate. What fodder for fiction! I simply could not wait to get home and start creating the Duke family. And you know what? When this pandemic is over, Death Valley is the first place I want to return…in the fall, of course! Do you have a place near and dear to your heart? What’s first on your travel list after the world opens up again?

"The Feeler " by James W. Goll Book Tour and GiveAway

About the Book

Book:  The Feeler

Author: James W. Goll

Genre: RELIGION / Christian Living/Spiritual Growth

Release date:March 9, 2021

The Scriptures give us a full-color picture of a God who is moved by emotions such as yearning, love, and compassion. Our human emotions reflect the emotional qualities of our Creator, who made us in His own image. Feelings have a vital place in any believer’s life, not just in those who have a more sensitive nature due to their personalities.

The Feelerby James W. Goll delivers a remarkable biblical perspective on our emotions and how they help us to discern and act on God’s voice. We experience the love, joy, and presence of God with our feelings. Our emotions have an impact on our bodies, our level of holiness, our relationships, and our decisions.

The Bible tells us we need to have our “senses trained to discern good and evil”(Hebrews 5:14 NASB). What are we training? Both our natural senses andour spiritual senses. Our physical senses, with the addition of “knowing,” correspond to our spiritual senses in these ways:

  1.  Eyes (sight): visions and dreams
  2.  Ears (hearing): voices and sounds
  3.  Heart (touch): emotions and feelings
  4.  Tongue (taste): good and evil
  5.  Nose (smell): good and bad
  6.  Mind (knowing): divine thoughts and impressions

This book will show you how to listen for and recognize the often subtle ways God’s Spirit speaks to believers, as well as how to discern good and evil spirits. With consecrated gifts and senses, you can reach out to the body of Christ and to the world at large in both spiritual and practical ways, making you much better equipped to fulfill your role as an ambassador of the gospel.

Click here to get your copy!

"The Feeler " by James W. Goll shows us that God uses our emotions and that they are a reflection of Him. There is plenty of Biblical scriptures in this book, some are written out but there are others that are listed for the reader to look up on their own.

I will be reading this book again because I am definitely a feeler. I am glad that this book points out that my feelings aren't wrong but it is how I use them that can make the difference on whether they are God lead or not.

Those of us that are  feelers need to learn to not walk by our emotions alone but must seek the leading of the Spirit. We truly need to be grounded in the Word Of God.

The author tells us to check for "heart problems" such as self- rejection or unforgiveness or fear of others' opinions of us.  I have a lot of self-rejection but I am slowly releasing this into Jesus's loving arms. The author shows us that we are to have compassion for ourselves as well as others.

The prayers that are included are ones that we can pray and if we truly mean them, I believe they will impact our lives.

I really think we should all live by this statement that the author points out, " Knowing that we ourselves are made of the same stuff as the next person should make us much more patient with others and help us live more compassionate lives."

I have already stated that I will be reading this book again because I to often let my emotions rule my actions.

I also how to admit I am not sure what I think about visions and etc. I do recommend this book because of the excellent teachings on the gifts of The Holy Spirit and be lead by the Holy Spirit.

I was given a complementary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

His passion is to “win for the Lamb the rewards of His suffering.” Praying for Israel is a burden of his heart as Israel fulfills her role in the consummation of the ages.
James and Michal Ann were married for thirty-two years before her graduation to heaven in the fall of 2008. James has four adult children, Justin, GraceAnn, Tyler, and Rachel, all of whom are married, and a growing number of grandchildren. James makes his home in the rolling hills of Franklin, TN.
