I just knew I wasn't going to like the book 'Indebted" by  Charmayne Hafen, but I am so happy to post that I was so wrong, I loved this book.  I don't usual like books with dragons, witches, but this book is so different from other stories that involves these characters. This book actually focuses on the Christian message of  God and Jesus's love.

This book is about Princess Wren's search for love and belonging.

I definitely recommend this book to all readers who like stories that show characters struggle just like we do.  This is a story that will stay with me for a while.  I kept telling my husband the whole time I was reading this book, that he would like the movie if it was made into one.

I love this statement from the book " Life is especially hard if you don't know you are loved" , which is truly what this story is about.

Wren's struggles with guilt because she believes that it is her fault's that her mother has disappeared. I really loved the ending.

This is also a clean love story so I say this book has everything that makes it a fast, keep turning the pages novel which includes the Christian message that God loves us and sent His son, and forgiveness and friendship and love and  that suspension of disbelief needed for us all to see the possibility of walking in faith with others in traumatic times and to experience the wonders of God’s word to us.

So I say Well done, Mrs. Hafen, you have made me look at dragons stories through a different set of lens. I am looking forward to reading more of your books.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

Hello, Readers, Educators, Book Reviewers and Celebrate Lit Bloggers!
Although I am new to a lot of social media, I have heard that your group is a fantastic resource to new authors. Being a little bit of an introvert, you might even call me reluctant or a slow starter, but I assure you that I can imagine strategies and battle in the heavenlies for readers’ minds with the best of ’em. I say, “Let’s go!”
Please feel free to connect with me on any social media platform, or to write to me directly. I have loved engaging with anyone who has read my book and has sent me a comment or question. Because Indebted was published, I was thrilled to be able to speak to a group of college students taking coursework in literature and writing at Texas Tech last year.
I love facilitating creative writing seminars especially speaking to authors about how to join a system of discipline and creativity to overcome writer’s block.
My hope, however, is to be able to engage more students in elementary school and junior high about the topics in my books because I write about the things facing young people with a certain perspective that the Lord sees them right where they are, that God actually cares deeply for them, and that He has answers for them.  These answers include that Jesus paid the penalty for a kid’s lying, bullying, violence, disbelief, envy, and rebellion and that bringing them to back to God means that they get to be adopted into His kingdom as princes and princesses.
I hope that my books provide that suspension of disbelief needed for us all to see the possibility of walking in faith with others in traumatic times and to experience the wonders of God’s word to us.
Sincerely and Gratefully,
Charmayne

"Legion" is a  Bible Study by Shadia Hrichi.  It is divided into six weeks, each having five days of personal study. Each day includes one or more questions suitable for group discussion. There are also Pause to Ponder sections, along with extra questions if you want to dig deeper.  The author makes this a real personal study in the sections titled "Your Turn" There are also Supplemental readings that are enjoyable and informative.

This study focuses on Mark's account of the healing of the demoniac man that is called Legion. But the study starts out with Adam's and Eve bringing sin.

I will be studying this study more in depth in the future.

The quotes that are on the sides of the pages are worth pondering and thinking about. Here are a few examples, "Imagine all the people who found rest because Jesus was willing to break the Sabbath!" and "The real battle is in the mind, because it our thoughts that determine our actions".

I received a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

I really recommend Shadia Hrichis Bible studies of both Hagar and Legion. I am really glad that she uses people that we have  all heard about from the Bible, but we don't really hear much about and that she uses these people to help us understand that God loves us and that He is really for us.

I received a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

More from Shadia

If there is one universal truth, it is that every human heart longs for paradise. A perfect world without death, pain, or sorrow. A world at peace, where each of us is secure, treasured, and loved. But the reality is that the world as we know it will never deliver; it cannot. Scripture tells us that “the whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19).
As a result, you and I live in a broken world. A world that has been drifting off course ever since that slippery serpent enticed our first parents to reject God’s authority in that garden paradise so long ago. In that moment, they unwittingly handed over dominion of the earth to Satan on a silver platter. But this then begs the question. Why was God willing to risk rebellion in the Garden? And why would God allow His perfect creation to fall victim to the enemy’s schemes? And if God is good, why does He allow evil to exist?
Through this six-week study, you and I will explore the answers to these questions and more as we step into the fascinating story of the man known only by the name of the demons that tormented him. To be honest, I don’t know why I am attracted to the hard stories in the Bible. The messy stories. I suspect it stems, in part, from my own broken past. I can relate much easier to the broken people. The ones who experienced times when they felt unseen, or unloved, or unwanted. At the same time, their stories captivate my heart because when God reveals what He is doing behind the seen, His power and glory are displayed in ways that make my spirit soar!
So I invite you to come with me as we climb into the boat with Jesus and head into enemy territory. We will witness Jesus’s power and passion as He battles violent storms and armies of demons in order to rescue . . . one . . . lost . . . soul. Tormented, chained, and living in a graveyard, the man had no one to help him. No one to intercede for him. No one but Jesus. As a result:
  • A demoniac becomes a disciple.
  • A house of demons becomes a dwelling for the Living God.
  • The chained becomes a champion of good news.
You and I live in a world crying out for rescue. And just as Jesus was willing to cross the sea and rescue one man from the enemy’s chains, He crossed the heavens to rescue you and me from a fate even worse: eternal chains. But praise God that through His sacrifice for sin, Jesus conquered all the forces of evil and opened up the gates of paradise to all who embrace His mercy. So come with me. Let’s rediscover the God Who Rescues Me!
“For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.” —Colossians 1:13 NASB

I really, really liked "More Than A Second Chance" by Lisa Renee. This book is what the title implies, more than a second chance. This book is about forgiving Cassie and Melissa learning to accept God's forgiveness for their past mistakes and accepting God's love.

This book had moments that me really sad, like when a character's parents were so unforgiving and downright mean. I was thinking no wonder this character turned to drugs and premarital sex.

The book has talk of abortion, but it is a clean book, and I am happy to report that abortion was not part of the story line.   This book has a remarriage counseling section on sex, but it also clean and gives a Christian perceptive view so I really recommend this book to readers who like to read clean books with real issues with characters who show that life can have meaning after  heartbreaks and failures.

This book though fiction is really inspiring and I think it would be a great book club section. I think it would evoke a great discussion and maybe some healing to others.

I think this is my favorite read of 2020 so far.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

More from Lisa

What inspired you to start writing?
I’ve read many wonderful Christian novels of first-time love. Unfortunately, not all of us have experienced a strong lasting marriage. I’ve met many women who’ve had a husband turn away from their Christian faith and left the marriage. I want to encourage those women that God can restore what was lost with a faithful man.
My message is not to rush ahead of God’s timing. My characters are more cautious since they know life can throw unexpected blows. They learn to trust and open their hearts again, which takes time.
My first series tackles the central issue of divorce. More Than A Second Chance also addresses the challenges of infertility and grief. The story is wrapped around a new romance with plenty of humor and light-hearted moments to balance out the themes.

"Lone Star Ranger" by Renae Brumbaugh Green is the first book in the "The Texas Ranger Series" and was a quick fun read. It is less than 200 pages.  It draw me in from the first! I mean I had to know what happened. I had to see if the real murderer was ever captured in time to save Evan.

Elizabeth is quite unlike your normal female hero.

This book would be a delight to readers who like Westerns. I can even imagine liking this story as a made for a television movie.

I received a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

About the Author
renae greenRenae Brumbaugh Green is a city-girl-turned-country-diva. She’s married to a handsome country boy named Rick, and she’s mom to four nearly-perfect, nearly-grown children, two rowdy dogs, and some ducks. They live in rural Texas where Renae wears overalls, western boots, and bubblegum pink nail polish. She’s a bestselling author of over 30 books, an award-winning humor columnist, and an online English teacher. In her free time, she can be found leaping tall buildings and rescuing kittens from trees. Or, she’d like to do those things, if she had free time.

More from Renae

I’ve been a fan of historical romance from the moment I graduated from The Babysitter’s Club. A friend of mind introduced me to the Love Comes Softly series by Janette Oke, and I was hooked. In college, between exams and extracurricular stuff, I read those books like they were M&Ms. That’s why, when I started writing grown-up fiction, I knew historical was my genre.
But there’s another reason—perhaps a more compelling reason—why I had to write The Texas Rangers series. See, my granddaddy was a Texas Ranger. Not the baseball player kind. The gun-toting, cowboy-hat-and-badge-wearing kind. As far as I know, he was not a master of any kinds of martial arts, so if you’re a fan of Walker, Texas Ranger, I’m sorry to disappoint.
And he was not alive during the late 1800s, as are the characters are in this series. Grandaddy died in 1980 when I was 12 years old. He was a good man, known for rescuing puppies and bringing small gifts and toys to children in stressful situations—i.e. when their parents were arrested. My favorite memory of him is sitting on his lap, falling asleep to the sound of his big, round pocket watch ticking. I have a picture of myself, age three, sitting on his knee while he typed up his reports. I love that typewriter picture, and find it significant since I’m now a writer.
Grandaddy was Robert Everett Smith, and Grandmother (yes, I called her that—she was very formal, but also very sweet) was Ellie Marie (Edgar) Smith. The two lead characters in Lone Star Ranger are named Rett (Everett) and Elizabeth, in their honor.
Like Grandmother, Elizabeth is refined and formal, yet strong headed, with her own lady-like brand of spunk. She hails from Boston, and is a little overwhelmed at the grit and gravel of Texas lawmen. But she’s not intimidated—not even by handsome Texas Ranger Rett Smith.
Thanks so much for sharing in my cherished family memories. I hope you enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed writing it!
