"Bethany's Calendar" by "Elaine Cooper"

BACK COVER BLURB:

A Story of Fear and Faith

In January of 2002, Elaine Cooper’s world turned upside down. One minute her 23-year-old daughter, Bethany, seemed fine — a happy, brilliant young woman on the verge of a new career. The next she was strapped to a gurney in the local emergency room diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor.

During the next few months, Elaine used her nursing skills to not only help Bethany battle an unseen enemy, she learned to recognize the hand of God on her daughter’s life.

“Bethany’s Calendar” is a story of fear and faith, commitment and compassion, told with gut-wrenching honesty while sharing unwavering faith in God.

AUTHOR INFO:
Author and Speaker, Elaine Marie Cooper, is passionate about three things: Her faith, her family, and the history of the American Revolution.

Elaine grew up in Massachusetts where she soaked up local history much like sun seekers soak up UV rays. She could never get enough.

This interest led her to write four novels centered on the Revolutionary War: The award winning Deer Run Saga (three books) was then followed by Fields of the Fatherless. Set in 1775 in her hometown in Massachusetts, this latest release won Best Religious Fiction in the 2014 Next Generation Indie Book Awards and Best YA Fiction in the 2014 Selah Awards.

The author has also contributed to Fighting Fear: Winning the War at Home by Edie Melson and a romance anthology entitled, I Choose You. Her work has also appeared in such periodicals as Life: Beautiful and Better Homes & Gardens. She has stories being published in the September, 2014 issues of PrayerConnect Magazine and Splickety Prime.

Elaine’s first nonfiction book entitled Bethany’s Calendar will be published in December 2014. It is a memoir of her daughter who died of a brain tumor in 2003.

She speaks before groups on a number of topics including the history of our country, growing in our walk with the Lord, and being a patient advocate.

Elaine is married, has two grown sons, and is a GiGi to triplets. She is also a Registered Nurse.

MY REVIEW:
"Bethany's Calendar" is a five star Non-Fiction account in the life of a young lady and her family's journey with Brain Cancer. I know whatever I say about this book it will not be enough or give it justice!

When Elaine Cooper asked for reviewers to read it and write an honest review, I responded because my mother has cancer, ( lung, breast, bone and it was in her lymph nodes, though the breast cancer is in remission now). Bethany, Elaine's daughter, in her early twenties, had Brain Cancer and even through the cancers were different I felt I could learn something and maybe help her and my sisters and other family members learn to cope and understand mom and her feelings better as well as how to deal with the illness itself. I really hope others are helped by Elaine reliving her pain and sharing this book with other families struggling with this critical disease.

This book is very well written and truly a story from a mother's heart. Elaine is a nurse but this isn't written from a nurse's perception, I have read other books about people that had cancer but they were kinda of technical and "Bethany's Calendar" is not technical at all but a real story about a mother's and caregiver's struggles and heartaches dealing with cancer.

There were times I was literally crying while reading this story, such as this example from my Facebook post
"I am setting in the dentist's office and trying not to cry. I am reading a PDF file of Bethany's Calendar by Elaine Marie Cooper Author. It is so heartbreaking but I love the notes to self and notes to others after each chapter. And if I start to cry hope the others in the office don't think I'm strange but oh well life is like that and cancer is real and those of us that are affected by it do cry".

No, Bethany's story isn't mom's story but any one going through cancer or taking care of someone that does have cancer or another critical illness have similar heartaches and thoughts. I felt the author shared an honest and trueful account and even admitted that sometimes angry feelings were expressed.

I want to share one more Facebook post I posted while reading " Bethany's Calendar"
"Reading "Bethany's Calendar" by Elaine Cooper and I really am struck by this "note to others" at the end of one chapter
"Don't delay visiting those who the Lord draws you to see. You never know if it might be your last opportunity to be with them this side of eternity"

This is my thought after reading the above note: How many times how we felt the urge to call or go see someone and we don't follow though and then we get that call that let's us know it is too late."

I encourage everyone to read " Bethany's Calendar" whether you or someone you know is struggling with a critical illness or not, chances are you will soon.

I was given a pdf file by the author for an honest review and just as soon as the print book is available ( December 2014) I will be buying a couple of copies.

"Axis Quest,Take Flight" Shane Flynn and Madeline Duffy

Book Description

 July 1, 2014
Lily Carpenter Roarke has been hurled, unknowingly, into the supernatural world of God. She’s having dreams and visions that are hard to decipher. God and His angels are speaking to her and helping her make new decisions. People have appeared in her life and are changing her entire family. Her journey toward the axis continues. The axis occurs where and when two planes intersect and two distinct worlds, one our own reality and the other supernatural, come together and interact. The forces that bring these two worlds together are a matter of mystery.
Lily is searching for that intersection and is helped by her aging grandmother, Granny Rose. Granny Rose has discovered some of the connections and is mentoring Lily on how to find them and see angels. Her family is falling apart and a new handsome stranger triggers new feelings she hasn’t felt in years. A bully from the past threatens her, yet causes her to remember her former strength.
God is working in Lily’s life in subtle and obscure ways to help her on the journey. She’s finding out more and more about this world as she works through her real life with family issues. Journey along with Lily in the second ebook in the series - Axis Quest, The Beginning is the first ebook in the series. If you haven’t read it first, start there - Take Flight continues the adventure.
The second in a series of realistic, contemporary fiction ebooks, Madeline Duffy and Shane Flynn explode into the world of writing - achieving 5 star reviews right from the start. Don’t miss this series of ebooks that take Lily Carpenter further and further into the supernatural world. Perhaps this supernatural world is available to all and just waiting to be discovered.

Meet the Authors:

Shane Flynn and Madeline Duffy are co-authors that decided to tell a story about Lily Carpenter. Like many of us, she's struggling and learning about things in this world and the supernatural world at the same time. The authors, having both experienced supernatural occurrences of their own (that are unexplainable in the world view) can both say that there IS a supernatural world surrounding us.
Just how do you explain the supernatural without sounding like a kook? How do you tell people that a supernatural world really exists? There is great risk in giving testimony to supernatural events. People may label you as crazy or even as a liar. The world does not seem willing to embrace the powerful supernatural world of the Almighty God. But that does not mean it doesn't exist. Whether you believe it or not, it does exist. Your belief or disbelief does not change the reality of its existence, it only affects your ability to tap into it and/or see it. I strongly urge you to tap into it.
Retired from business, they have hobbies ranging from model ship building, painting, traveling and now writing. Both are well educated with multiple college degrees between the two of them. One is Southern born and bred, the other a Yankee. Their varied life experiences combine in a sense of adventure and exploration. Shane's business experience is mainly entrepreneurship; Madeline's is engineering and entrepreneurship. Together they make a remarkable team, complementing each other in most areas of life. They met under compelling circumstances and seemed destined to enjoy a relationship together. God works in the most mysterious ways.
Since this is a co-authored book, you may find an inter-twining account of events. As in any book, you may find us drifting into philosophical and thought provoking ideas. We have found that we agree on many things and we feel this is reflected in our work. Although this is fiction, you may find that supernatural events are common in our world. Maybe you have had one of your own. Their website is http://www.shaneflynn.com

Shane Flynn and Madeline Duffy set out to document a real near death experience by a dear friend of ours, Andy Fannon. We did this in The White Suit.We had so much fun doing this, that we continued on and wrote some fiction books on the supernatural world in the Axis Quest series. Although it's fiction, it's based on many real experiences that we've had ourselves and also ones we've heard testimony to. It's Biblically based. Come join us in the quest to experience angels, visions and dreams, it may change the way you look at things forever.
We were very pleased to have hit the market with all 5 star reviews on all three books.
The third book in the series Axis Quest called Insights will be coming out soon! Watch for it!
We are traveling the US in an RV for a few of the hot summer months. We have seen many wonderful sights in this vast and beautiful country of ours.

.A Personal Message from the Authors:
As born again Christians, Shane and Madeline both want others to know that

God is real. Why risk any other choice? There is no risk to becoming a

Christian, but there can be much reward, especially everlasting life after

death. If they are wrong, no problem, no penalty. If non-believers are

wrong, big “Oops” when they die. Don’t take that risk. Everlasting life is a

long, long time. Accept Jesus Christ in your heart today. Don’t delay or you

may find yourself in a life and death struggle in only a moment. There is

absolutely no risk to accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, only

reward. Accept Him into your heart and feel the explosion. Don’t take our

word for it, try it for yourself. I guarantee it will change your life forever. It

will also change your afterlife forever. Take the plunge. Don’t risk saying “I

wish I would have, could have, and should have.”

My Review:
"Axis Quest,Take Flight" Shane Flynn and Madeline Duffy is a five star book, the only thing I didn't really like was I started reading it to find out the answer to the cliff ending to "Axis Quest, The Beginning" Shane Flynn and Madeline Duffy, and still don't know the answer and have many more questions which makes me want to read the third book in this series. In a private conversion with Madeline Duffy she told me " I think as we go through life, there are always new questions....we may not find all the answers, till we get to our new home with Jesus." And you know she is right as we have new questions daily and sometimes hourly.

As Lily's earthly life is unraveling, she is learning about spiritual things and having new hopes and plans. This story explains about God and Heavenly things without a lot of preaching, which nonbelievers will enjoy!

Granny Rose tells Lily after one of her dreams "Maybe He's telling you that you have to get out of the boat before the raging river, I'm not sure. But that's how I see it. That you can't go through life just floating along, you have to get out of the boat and participate in the goodness of God."

This book is just your normal story about a wife and her family and her special relationship with her grandma mixed with spiritual truths which reminds us that even though the story is fiction it could be about each of us.

I am so anxiously awaiting book 3 and so hoping all the questions will be answered because, (this book is fiction and not real life) so the answers can be revealed! That is what is so good about fiction!

I was given a free ebook copy by the authors for an honest review!

My Review:

"Axis Quest, The Beginning" Shane Flynn and Madeline Duffy is receiving five stars from me! I was seeing parts of myself as I was reading this book! I love the fact that it is her grandmother helping her discover Who God really is!

Lily is named after the Biblical scripture Matthew 6:28. Lily's life is falling apart and so her grandmother helps her learn how to really " Believe." At first when Granny Rose begins to describes these angels Lily is sceptical but with the Bible scriptures her grandma gives her to read she is beginning to understand!

This book makes the reader want to draw closer to God. I love the images that the authors paint with their words. This book isn't sci-fi but describes the life of an ordinary married woman with three children who are just normal teenagers.

Here is a quote from the book " I thought I knew what I believed, but now I've come to find out that I really don't believe much of anything. Is God more than a Santa Claus kind of figure? Invisible but gives you things? Santa Claus doesn't expect much of me other than being good and nice. What does God expect out of me? After all, I'm a pretty decent person-I don't steal or murder. I have a nice house in a good neighborhood. My children are not drug pushers. My husband works hard for a living  and we pay our taxes. Everything seems in order. My life is basically good. We live the American dream. " This is just one of Lily's thoughts as she is trying to make sense of her life. As you can see she is questing faith, she has always considered herself a Christian but her Christian life has been put on a shelf to make room for the other things of life"

Even if I hadn't liked this first book of the Axis Quest series " I would have to read the second because the ending has me wanting to know how the last event is worked out! I have it downloaded on iPad, and as soon as I finished this review am going to start reading " Axis Quest,Take Flight".

My Review:
"The Saga Begins" by Amber Schamel is the"Days of Messiah Series Prequel" and deserves five stars. I was captured from the first word of this 31 page story! Yes, the story was short but so filled with Imagery, that only enhanced the storyline. I felt like I was watching the scenes unfold as I was reading! I even felt Tyrus's pain as he tries to save a family member.

Tyrus has to make a decision that will affect his life as well as his family's in this novella, does he make the right one?

I hope you will read "The Saga Begins" and find out for yourself and join this reader in reading the entire series, as " The Healer's Touch"volume 1 is just as exciting! I can't wait for volume 2!

"Amish Forever - The Complete Series" by Roger Rheinheimer and Crystal Linn

           Book Description

 March 12, 2014
Ava Troyer never really considered the possibility of life outside of the warm, protective Amish community. Even during her state-mandated schooling through the eighth grade, she would dreamily fantasize about whether any of the other Amish boys in the history class right after lunch was going to be the father of her children, or if she would meet the man of her dreams from another state, an exciting possibility. But the wreck that killed her father and almost killed Ava, that early Sunday morning, at the hands of an all-night reveler, changed everything. The young man in military fatigues that pulled her to safety spoke Pennsylvania Dutch to her, but he wasn’t Amish. Or was he? And how could she be so powerfully attracted to a young man about to go overseas to war, something she fiercely believed was wrong?
Authors Info: Roger Rheinheimer:
Roger spent the first eighteen years of his life in northern Indiana, in the middle of Amish country. His father was the only doctor for a small town of a little over a thousand people, and had a hitching rail on a side street by his office for the Amish patients. His father bought an eighty acre farm, and Roger and his older brother worked it, raising cattle and growing crops.
While he was still in high school, Roger learned woodworking skills from Elmer Schlabach, his Amish mentor. They built houses in the old-fashioned tradition; hand-mixing the concrete for the foundations to building kitchen cabinets in Elmer's well equipped shop. To this day, Roger enjoys using his wood crafting skills, making acoustic guitars and furniture.
Roger earned an undergraduate degree in Behavioral Psychology from a small private college in the Shenandoah Valley, took a Creative Writing class, loved it, and published a short story called "My Brother." He was a regular contributing writer to the college newspaper.
After nearly thirty years living in Austin, Texas, watching it grow into a large city, Roger and his wife Ginny moved to a small farm in the Pacific Northwest.

Crystal Linn
In the year 2000 I finally became serious about my writing, even though I am an award-winning poet who has written all of my life. I have been blessed with the ability to write in several styles and formats. It is great fun co-authoring the Amish novels with Roger Rheinheimer.
I look forward to writing more books with Roger, and to begin writing parenting books from my view point as a professional working with children and the adults in their lives.
My home is in the Pacific Northwest with my husband and dog, Rosa. My hobbies include reading mysteries, writing, and sailing with family and friends.

My Review:

I am giving "Amish Forever - The Complete Series" by Roger Rheinheimer and Crystal Linn five stars! This is twelve stories that was originally published as twelve short novellas, I am glad I was given the complete series for an honest review as I am not sure I would have enjoyed the novellas as much as I did the complete series as the short stories wouldn't have  been long enough. The ending of this complete series left me wanting more of Ava and the young man in military fatigues! I am happy to know that I will get to know more in a new book that is in the works as I am writing this review and it will be "Amish Forever : A New Journey".

The only problem I had with this book was that the storyline was repeated too much but that could have been because the story like I said was originally published as novellas and standalones but it didn't really distract me from enjoying the story!

This story points out that the Amish has problems with jealously and bitterness and I really loved that LOVE WON in the end!

Ava's mother died giving her birth and her Aunt Rachel moved in to help raise her and her three older brothers!  The only problem is Aunt Rachel didn't like Ava's mother at all and is a bitter woman. The problems really start after Ava's father is killed in a wreck and a mystery man moves back to the community and why is one of the three brother's Aunt Rachel's favorite when he is not following the Amish way of life at all!

This book is full of love, and heartache and surprises and struggles, in other words real life!

Samantha spent over eighteen years traveling with her husband, through 48 states & Canada. This gave her lots of experience for the backgrounds of her Novels. These days she spends her time tending to her dogs, Jack, Max, Socks, and writing/working on several forums, websites, and author groups.
Samantha calls her genre, Life Fiction. Many think Samantha writes romance, and though her novels contain romance they do not center on that alone. Her novels shows real life struggles, a little detective work, and humor when at all possible.
Samantha has many stories to tell, and she hopes to be around writing for many years to come. Samantha has loved writing since the early age of eight and she hopes that her stories can uplift, entertain, and be a blessing to her readers.
Samantha Fury also writes Romance under the pen name Samantha Lovern

My Review:

"Reasonable Service (Street Justice Book 3)" by Samantha Fury is a five star novel. It is the third in the "Street Justice Series"and in my opinion is the best of the three!

In this book Jerry, a former criminal, and his helpers opened a shelter and clinic for homeless people. One of his helper ends up being a street person! I won't tell you in what capability but I think if you take the time to read this story you will be glad you did!

Not only is the helper in the shelter a surprise, his relationship to Michael is a surprise but it makes this story that much more delightful!

I really like the life lessons that this book implores throughout this story, that tells the readers that until we give everything to God and really become His child he doesn't have to help us. ( I know not all will understand this statement but I hope it really touches and helps someone)

Like the other books in this series, the romances is just as intense but clean unless you don't like flirting and kissing in the books you read! Michael's grandmother prayed for Jessica and him to meet and now that they did she wonders if it is a good thing!

Angel is back on the job and saves a young man from a life of crime. Charlie is still trying to decide if she is doing the right thing by dating him as he hasn't made the trip to the altar to accept Christ yet!

The ending of this book has me anxiously waiting for book 4 which the author has informed that she is working on, I am on pins and needles wanting to know the ending but then I am not sure I want to know if the series doesn't end the way I want it too! You know us readers have the way the story should end all planed out in our minds ( and sometimes we are pleased when it ends differently then we planned but then other times we wonder how it would have worked if it went the way we wanted it too)

I was given an ebook copy for an honest review by the author!

"Tidal Wave "(Street Justice Book 2) by Samantha Fury

Book Description

 July 3, 2013
Antonio was out walking the beach before the sun was up. He was unfairly
burdened for a kid of fourteen, but he quickly learned that his troubles at
home were nothing compared to the new problems he had now.

He was the only witness to a terrible plane crash that happened in those
early morning hours. Two men had been in the plane; one walked away,
the other lay unmoving on the sand. Later he learned the man was taken
to Mercy General; since his mother was a nurse there he was able to gain
access to the injured man, Carlos Santora.

The pretty nurse Fran and that cocky doctor they called Max McDreamy
were tending to his plane crash victim. Thankfully, Doctor Max seemed
more interested in Fran than he did the man from the beach. Fran on the
other hand seemed concerned, but she was too busy to spend much time
digging for the truth.

It didn’t help his troubles with the detective, though. Detective Donigan
was supposed to be investigating the crash, but he seemed to be spending
more time flirting with Rosa, Antonio’s mother, than he did working on
the case. Antonio didn’t like it but he wouldn’t complain; it kept the
detective from looking his way.

And what about the pretty redhead Antonio sold the Sunday paper to?
Why was she so interested in the man from the plane crash? If he could
only figure it all out. He’d managed to talk to talk to the man named
Carlos twice, but he was no help; he had amnesia.

So much to figure out and he had a feeling he was running out of time . . .

My Review:
"Tidal Wave" (Street Justice Book 2) by Samantha Fury is receiving five stars from me! It is the second book in the "Street Justice Series" and is just as good as the first one " Charlie's Angel".

In this book Angel is in the hospital with amnesia, or is he only pretending? And what game is the woman playing that is pretending to be his wife!  This book really kept this reader turning the pages to this story.

This book's plot takes the readers on a whirlwind of adventure. I really didn't guess that things would end up the way they did!

The only thing I disliked was I wanted a little more detail of how things worked out in the other 2  romances started in this book, but maybe that will be revealed in book 3 but if not I know this is fiction and a lot of things are left unsettled in fiction ( don't like it but guess things happen like that in the fiction world).

I was given an ebook copy for a honest review!
