"This Freedom Journey " by Misty M. Beller Book Tour and GiveAway

About the Book

Title: This Freedom Journey
Author: Misty M. Beller
Genre: Christian Historical Romance
Release Date: July 11, 2018

Adrien Lockman is through with the political unrest and bloodshed in his home country of France, so he sets off to the Canadian territory’s mountain frontier, in search of a place where a man can live his own life in peace. The last thing he expects to find is a woman, half-starved and half-frozen in a shack nestled among the towering peaks of the great Rocky Mountains. Mary Standish thought she’d finally found a place where she was accepted, trapping with her husband for the Hudson Bay Company. But when he dies after a gruesome grizzly fight, she determines to carry on their work. After all, life in these remote mountains is better than enduring the scorn and snubs of “civilized” folk. When she’s forced to face a winter harder than any she’s endured yet, her stubbornness may just be the death of her. Until a stranger appears at her ramshackle door. Adrien had planned to explore the mountain country all winter before he settles down to build a farm in the spring, but he can’t leave this woman to die in the elements. Even though she seems desperate for him to go. As Mary regains strength, she’s torn between wanting to save her dignity, and craving the respect of this man who’s slipped past her defenses. As the winter worsens, the truth becomes all too real—the only way they’ll survive is together.

My Review:
"This Freedom Journey" by Misty M. Beller  is just as good as the other two books in the series.

While reading this novella I ask my husband, "Do people really eat fox and wolf" he replied  "I guess so, if they are hungry enough"  I replied " Well in this book they do"!

I really like this series which is surprising because generally I don't like survival stories but these books feel more like a story about people rising above their struggles than a book about surviving the wilderness and the elements of nature.

This book shows that we don't need to preach but to show God's love through our actions.

There are a couple of scenes that really made me want to cry!

I think my favorite character has to be an animal named Domino. Ok, I admit all the characters in this book are my favorite because there are only three.

Even though "This Freedom Journey " is part of a series it can be read as a standalone as well as the other two books.  There is a fourth book but since I haven't read it I can't say anything about it except to say it is on my to be read list.

I recommend "This Freedom Journey "  by Misty M. Beller to any reader who likes clean love story and survived stories and Christian Historical Romances.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

About the Author

Misty M. Beller writes romantic mountain stories, set on the 1800s frontier and woven with the truth of God’s love. She was raised on a farm in South Carolina, so her Southern roots run deep. Growing up, her family was close, and they continue to keep that priority today. Her husband and daughters now add another dimension to her life, keeping her both grounded and crazy. God has placed a desire in Misty’s heart to combine her love for Christian fiction and the simpler ranch life, writing historical novels that display God’s abundant love through the twists and turns in the lives of her characters.

A Inside Look at the Cover for This Freedom Journey

My book covers are one of my favorite parts of the creative process! With most of my books, I have the cover done early, usually as I’m first brainstorming the story. I love to have the heroine on my cover, and I work hard to make sure the woman on the front matches the heroine I’m envisioning for the story. That way I can describe her in the novel the way she looks on the cover. Sometimes I even work in the outfit she’s wearing on the cover! This Freedom Journey is a novella in my Heart of the Mountains series, so I wanted the cover to be similar in layout and style to the other books in that series. The setting is winter in the Canadian Rockies, so I knew Mary (the heroine) had to be bundled warmly! Funny story: Mary is mentioned in the other two books, although they’re set later in her life. When I first described her in the other books, I imagined her with amber brown eyes. When I chose the final cover for This Freedom Journey, I had to go back and change the amber brown eyes in those other manuscripts to the riveting blue on the cover. 😊

"Kappy King and the Puppy Kaper" (An Amish Mystery) by Amy Lillard

Content to be unmarried and plain-spoken, Kathryn “Kappy” King is an odd-woman-out in the Amish community of Blue Sky, Pennsylvania. But she’s skilled at making the special kapps local women need to cover their hair. And she might be the only one who can unearth the danger hiding in this peaceful valley . .

When Kappy's neighbor, Ruth Peachey, turns up dead in her yard, everyone in Blue Sky believes it’s a tragic accident. Until the Englisch police find the gentle dog breeder was deliberately struck down—and arrest her mentally-challenged son, Jimmy, for the crime . . .

Jimmy’s sister, Edie, returns to Blue Sky clear his name, yet no one will speak to a shunned former Amish woman, much less give her information. Determined to help, Kappy starts digging for the truth among her seemingly-innocent neighbors. But suddenly a series of suspicious “accidents” threatens Edie and the Peachey farm—property Edie is determined to protect for her brother’s future.

Now, as danger looms large in the small community, Kappy must bait a trap for a killer snapping hard at her heels. And Edie must decide whether to make a home once more in the town she thought she’d left behind . . .

About Amy Lillard
I'm a wife, mother, and bona fide Southern belle. Published author, expert corn bread maker, and Squirrel Princess.

I live in Tulsa, though I was born in Mississippi. I moved to the Sooner State when I was seventeen and met my soul mate and best friend not long after. I've retained a little of my Mississippi accent though most people think I'm from Texas. (?) Rob and I have been married for over twenty years and have a son-a mom proclaimed prodigy, of course!

I love homemade tacos, nail polish, and romance novels-not necessarily in that order. I'm a big fan of country music, a staunch proponent of saving the Oxford comma, and I'm shamefully obsessed with all things Harry Potter.

I believe that God is love. I guess that's why I love to write inspirational romances. The two go hand-in-hand for me.

I have always been intrigued with the Amish culture, their gentle ways and slower-paced lifestyle. (And I love, love, love the fact that they stay married for their lifetime.) But until recently I never thought to blend this interest with my penchant for romance. Okay, okay, I'm a bit old-fashioned and even enjoy the gender roles that are present in this culture. I love to cook and take care of my family. Yes, that's me June Cleaver with a laptop.

I dislike people trying to convince me to read the Twlight series (I'll get to it or I won't, either way I'm good with it), gratuitous violence, and strawberry ice cream. (I know I'm alone on this last one, and again, I'm good with it.)

Favorite movies-(besides HP) French Kiss, Maid of Honor, A Lot Like Love, Just Married, and Sweet Home Alabama. Oh, and Miss Congeniality, Sabrina (both versions) and a 1940′s movie called Dear Ruth. If you haven't seen it, you should! A-dorable. Anything with Doris Day and most all of Marilyn's and Audrey's.

To Purchase "Kappy King and the Puppy Kaper  : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XZQTCQH/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i12

My Review:

I positively loved reading "Kappy King and the Puppy Kaper" by Amy Lillard.  It is a mystery and I loved how an Amish woman and a woman who left the Amish community and was under the Bann came together to solve the mystery.

I really felt sorry for Jimmy, because he was arrested while at his mother's funeral. I felt Edie's sorrow as she and Kappy search for clue to find the real killer because they just knew Jimmy was innocent.   But, is he really innocent or is  he guilty? Can Kappy and Edie discover the truth before it is too late for Jimmy?

There is also another question that needs to be answered in this story, Is Edie going to stay in Blue Sky or is she going back to the world of the Englishers?

I still don't understand how the Amish can be so forgiving of outsiders but not so forgiving of one of their own, my heart strings were pulled when Edie was ignored by the Amish people, she was actually treated like she was invisible.

Just like the title implies there are plenty of puppies in this story. There are also plenty of twists.

This book was definitely a fun read even though it started out with a murder. I can say that because I know the book is fiction and no one was actually murdered.

The ending left me waiting to read the next book in the series as soon as I read the last word.

I was given a complimentary copy by Amy Lillard. These opinions are my own.

"Evil Forebodings" by Carol Keen

Synopsis:

A conservative small town. One woman with a gift. A supernatural battle with lives at stake.

Can she clarify her forebodings of evil, cope with the messages written in blood, and help find her kidnapped friend before more harm comes to Newville or herself? The time has come for Tiffany take a stand and fight for her safety and her sanity.

What people are saying about Evil Forebodings:

“When Christian belief is challenged by spiritual forces of darkness in a small town. . .who will ultimately triumph? You’ll need to read Evil Forebodings to discover the answer for yourself.
“A supernatural, paranormal novel with plenty of suspense and a bit of romance. From page one, I was getting tingles down my spine. I would recommend this novel to readers that enjoy supernatural, paranormal, suspense stories.”

Jeepers, Creepers, you won't want to close those peepers! If you like scary books then you will like this one. This touches on spiritual warfare and the unseen evil that goes on in the world. I like that she wrote about the pastor and other believers praying during the town's battle with darkness and evil.”

“The storyline was fascinating and unique. I loved that Tiffany could communicate with animals and that spiritual gifts and warfare are such a huge part of the story.”

MY REVIEW:

"Evil Forebodings: For Some, The Fight Has Just Begun" by Carol E. Keen is another one of those books that the reader has no idea where the story is going at first but one that you will be glad you finished.

I think "Evil Forebodings" is a supernatural/paranormal suspense with a bit of romance. I think part of the problem getting into the book at first is because all the characters are mixed together and it is hard to switch gears into the other characters immediately, but when the reader finally realizes what is going on, it makes a read that is thrilling and keeps the reader turning the pages just to see the outcome. So keep reading if at first you are confused!

This story even brings the pets thoughts into the storyline and I think the author does a great job describing them.

This book deals with evil and though it is Christian, the reader knows that only because the characters mention prayer and that praying is the only way to help the two characters that are in the most danger.

I kept thinking this book is like a Criminal Minds episode the entire time I was reading, that is a good thing to me because I really like the tv show Criminal Minds. Yes, I must warn that some readers won't like this story because characters are drugged and kidnapped and words are written in blood but I did end up liking this story and have only one complaint about the book as a whole and that is there is going to be another one and I want to continue the story now which is like every book I read and like. I want to continue the story and not have to wait. Such is the life of a reader.

The Evil continues in another book and I hope so does the romance that begins in "Evil Forebodings".

I am giving "Evil Forebodings: For Some, The Fight Has Just Begun" by Carol E. Keen four stars.

I was given a  complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit . These opinions are my own.

You can order your copy of An Unexpected Role on Amazon.
My Review:
"An Unexpected Role" by Leslea Wahl is a book that is cataloged as a teen book but I loved it, and I am 59. It is a mystery that doesn't start out as a mystery. By this, I mean Josie's mom is an author and her previous books have been based on Josie's life and events. So naturally, when a new book is published, the kids in her school assume that the embarrassing scenes are true and are about her. To avoid the kids during summer, Josie goes to visit her aunt and finds herself playing Nancy Drew.

Josie is part of the theater class at school so there are a few references of musicals and songs which make the story that much more enjoyable.

Josie's learns life's lessons while she is visiting her aunt. She learns that first impressions aren't always right and she learns that helping others is more important than her reputation. She learns that we need to treat Jesus like a friend.

I recommend this book to all readers from young teens to adults.

I received a complimentary from the author and CWA. These opinions are my own

My Review:
"Revealed" by Elaine Manders is a really good story. It is the third book in the "Intrigue under Western Skies "Series and answers questions that are raised in the other two books. The following quote is taken from the author's guest post on the blog tour "Some of the characters show up in every book, with new ones added along the way. But the books can be read out of sequence since each one has a different premise and plot." I only added that quote to my review to say, while you can enjoy this story without reading the other ones, I recommend reading in order to get the full suspense of the books, if you read out of order you already know the answers.

This story has twists and turns that surprised me.

This story shows that characters need to trust God and wait on Him for all life issues, even who to marry.

This book shows that greed makes people do things that are evil. There is one scene that made me want to stop reading, I was thinking, Oh no. I can't handle this if something happens to Davey. But, I am happy to say I am glad I kept reading.

The characters in these stories are true to life. There are some that readers want to be friends with and some that readers want to avoid or shake some sense into.

I think if you are a fan of the Wild West Shows and circus performers, you will like this book because of Charley. Her performance with the ring of fire and other acts are described so well you can imagine you are watching them instead of reading about them.

The ending has me wondering if a fourth book is coming.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

Guest Post from Elaine Manders

My Backstory
Intrigue under Western Skies Series, Book 3
Revealed
Back when I watched television, drama series were my favorite—Little House of the Prairie, the Waltons, the Virginian. I was caught up in the lives of these characters and looked forward to seeing what they were up to each week. For much the same reason, I enjoy writing episodic series. Intrigue under Western Skies, a blended genre, historical romantic suspense series falls in this category. Some of the characters show up in every book, with new ones added along the way. But the books can be read out of sequence since each one has a different premise and plot. In Revealed, Book 3 of Intrigue under Western Skies, I wanted to give Colt Holliman, previously introduced as a secondary character, his own HEA. Also, it seemed the time to reveal what happened to Rhyan Cason’s mother, the woman who’d caused so much angst in the first two books. More importantly, it gave me the opportunity to introduce Katherine, the sister he never knew existed. Unexpectedly, my research led me to the history of show business, and how it developed through the Wild West shows of the nineteenth century. From that, a mystery evolved. The spiritual thread running through Revealed explores the emotions of a young woman who discovers blood relatives have been hidden from her. Can she accept and love her new family and forgive the sins of her parents? Maybe the greatest insight I gained from writing Revealed is that one can never trust his own heart without first trusting God.

"Misstep" by Deborah Dee Harper

Pastor Hugh Foster: His heart was in the right place, even if, in hindsight, it appeared he’d clearly taken leave of his senses.

It’s December in Road’s End, Virginia, a tiny town long forgotten by anyone but its residents, where Colonel Hugh Foster and his wife, Melanie, have chosen to live—for better or worse. The jury’s still out on that one!
Road’s End is comprised entirely of senior citizens whose kids have grown and left for greener pastures. Hugh, Melanie, and Bristol (one of the few sane people in town) are faced with a crumbling church in desperate need of repair and renovation, a dwindling congregation of opinionated, ornery senior citizens, and a camel—yes, a camel. And if that's not enough, the trio and the rest of the Road's End residents are soon mired in danger and intrigue when a group of gun-toting drug dealers arrive in town, bent on killing the church handyman, and conspiring to ruin the doggonedest record-breaking blizzard the town has ever seen.

Poor drug dealers.

My Review:
"Misstep" by Deborah Dee Harper is a cute story about a strange little town where anything is possible. The town has a blizzard and criminals come to town. This story is a mystery and has a surprise ending. The characters are likable and funny. There are surprises all through the story. If you want a fun and sometimes laughs out scenes than I recommend" Misstep" by Deborah Dee Harper.

The animals in this book even have minds of their own.

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel so much and had to read the next one, "Faux Pas" as soon as I finished reading it.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

Guest Post from Dana Mentink
I’ve spent a bit of time in emergency rooms lately. Not to complain, mind you. The asthma related treatments worked like a charm and we were blessed by good care, so I am not grateful. There’s a bonus, too. The emergency room is a great place for people watching! Hour upon hour I spent surveying patients, relatives, nurses and doctors. I came away pondering what it must be like to work in the strange bustle that is an emergency room. That’s where character Shannon Livingston was born.
The E.R doc and nurses must be brilliant problem solvers with nerves of steel because they never know what will roll through their doors. Since they are not responsible for follow up care, they have only a short term relationship with their patients. But what would happen, my fictional mind wanted to know, if one emergency room treatment ensnared Shannon in a “run for your life” scenario? And what if her incredible life saving skills weren’t nearly enough to save her own life, or the baby she’s suddenly become responsible for? Ah me! The perfect scenario for a suspense novel, no? I hope you enjoy Cowboy Bodyguard. I can promise it’s going to be a bumpy ride!
 My Review:
"CowBoy Bodyguard" by Dana Mentink is the third book in the (Gold Country Cowboys) series.  I think it is my favorite of the third.

This book is full of suspense and kept me reading till the end. It is a story about family and loyalty, faith, love, trust and God's love.

You don't have to read the other books to enjoy this story but I recommend reading them in order just to get the full story because Jack and Shannon's story started before this.

This story has a baby that needs to be saved along with the mother.

I am glad this story ended the way it did.  Shannon learned how God's love can go deep into a person's heart and change what they believe about themselves if they accept it.

I recommend this book if you like suspense, a clean love story and cowboys.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author. These opinions are my own.
