" Wren's Nest" by Deanne Durrett

Book Description

 November 29, 2013
During a late-night thunderstorm, Joe Chandler open his cottage door to a young man hovering over his sister. They’re drenched and shivering, and she’s in labor. Joe, a retired cop, assists the birth. As the newborn gasps his first breath, Joe vows to protect the child and his mother from whatever drove them to his door.
Joe soon learns that Sherman promised to protect his sister while her husband is deployed. Now, they’re on the run after a surrogate mother disappeared and an unscrupulous lawyer altered his files to name Loren (Wren) as the surrogate. A ruthless gangster with hired thugs is in pursuit of the child he mistakenly believes to be his grandson. While Joe and his team of retired cops guard Loren and her baby, Sherman teams up with Blake Adams (the Phoenix Connection) to intercept the hired thugs as they follow a trail that leads straight to Joe’s cottage (Wren’s nest). If you like a story of high tension with strong family ties and warm relationships, I think you'll enjoy WREN’S NEST.

My Review:
" Wren's Nest" by Deanne Durrett is positively a five star book. I was hooked from the first sentence!  Of course I know the book was about keeping a newborn baby safe, I love babies and I like to read Christian/inspirational novels, so I knew this would be a winner.

Joe Chandler answers the knock on the door and is immediately thrown into a mystery!  He tries to keep his house guests a secret but his neighbor discovers the secret and she is thrown into the mystery!

I did not figured out the hero of this story till I was almost finished reading it! I bet this hero will fool you also, but once the story tells the hero, it was obvious, of course, that is what makes a great story!

Since this book was loaned to me from a friend,I did not read the first book, but  I definitely plan to  as well as any subsequent books. This book works absolutely fine as a stand alone, but I am now so interest in these characters and want  to know more about them.

This book is full of twists and turns! It is a book about friendship and trust!  There is also a hint of romance but it isn't developed in this book, hoping maybe it will be in a later book.

I would recommend  this book to anyone that likes a good mystery with a happy ending !

Deanne Durrett Biography

Born in Oklahoma, I grew up on a farm six miles from the town where I went to school. I expected to marry my high school sweetheart after graduation. That was the way of things in small farming communities back then. My mother, however, had different idea. By the time I realized what she was up to, I was enrolled in college and unpacking my bags at Southwestern State. Thanks to Mom, I met the man of my dreams, and after his graduation, my college guy and I set out to build a life together.
In our early years, Dan's job kept us on the move, traveling from the Canadian border to the Gulf, and from the Mississippi to the Rockies. Although I didn't know I wanted to be a writer until I was one, I started packing away memories and experience in a cerebral idea file for future use.
Years later, when the opportunity came my way to write a weekly newspaper column, I said to myself, "I can do that." The next week when I saw my work in print, it was love at first sight. I've been writing ever since. That was 1970.
I wrote the newspaper column for two and a half years, OJT while learning my craft. Highlights published my first story for children in 1972, and after that, I wrote for newspapers and magazines until I sold my first book in 1985.
By this time, our children were grown and married. But, while Dan and I were still adjusting to our empty nest, our son's marriage dissolved and he came home with a four-month-old baby. I thought I was ready to write full time, but God planned for me to take time to help our son and granddaughter while I gained some more life experience.(I recently discovered that this is called a "divine appointment.")
During the next few years, I found I could write nonfiction in stolen moments, but storywriting (fiction) would have to wait until I had hours of quiet for thinking and writing. In the next few years I published 20 nonfiction books for the library/educational market and co-authored two memoirs for grown-up readers.
After completing my obligations for the last nonfiction contract, I decided to go back to my first love, Christian romance. And so, here I am, surrounded by peace and quiet with lots of time to think and write. My time has come to follow my dream and my calling. I'm claiming the title of storywriter and my first book, THE ROGUE TRUST, is available on Kindle.

From the Author

This is my second Christian/inspirational novel. The first, Rogue Trust is Becca's romantic tale. The second, Wren's Nest is Joe Chandler's story involving crime prevention and suspense. These stories came into my imagination closely linked with related characters and located in the same fictitious town, Myrtle Hill, Oklahoma. I wanted to write about a community of people where anything might happen on an ordinary day. Could be romantic, could be mysterious, and could be suspenseful. But very soon, my writer-self and my reader-self were in conflict. Writer-self wanted a series about the community mentioned above. Reader-self wants to know what to expect when she opens a book. And so, I divided the characters in Myrtle according to the genre of their tales. Ordinary Days in Myrtle Hill is romance. And Wren's nest is the beginning of a suspenseful series, The Phoenix Connection.

I think the next best thing to reading a good book is writing one. So I let my characters tell me their story and I enjoy sharing their experience as I write the chapters. I plan to let them tell their stories, each in their own way. The main characters share a strong faith and believe they are God's boots on the ground. They sometimes call themselves earth angels. They simply mean that when they are in the right place, at the right time, they are ready to serve. They are ordinary people until "something" makes them special. Sometimes their lives are filled with romance, sometimes mystery, and sometimes suspense... but they're always God's boots on the ground.
