The Daughter of Highland Hall" by Carrie Turansky

  Book Description
 October 7, 2014
What if the title, the estate, the life of security and splendor… what if it isn’t enough?

Strong-willed and beautiful, debutante Katherine Ramsey feels ready to take the London social season by storm, and she must. Her family estate, Highland Hall, has been passed to older male cousin Sir William Ramsey, and her only means of securing her future is to make a strong debut and find a proper husband. With her all-knowing and meddling aunt as a guide, Katherine is certain to attract suitors at the lavish gatherings, sparkling with Great Britain’s elite.

When a shocking family scandal sidelines Katherine, forcing her out of the social spotlight, she keeps a low profile, volunteering with the poor in London’s East End. Here Katherine feels free from her predictable future, and even more so as a friendship with medical student Jonathan Foster deepens and her faith in God grows. But when Katherine is courted anew by a man of wealth and position, dreams of the life she always thought she wanted surface again. Torn between tradition and the stirrings in her heart for a different path, she must decide whom she can trust and love—and if she will choose a life serving others over one where she is served.

My Review:
"The Daughter of Highland Hall" by Carrie Turansky reads like you are watching an episode of Downton Abbey with different characters and a different setting, which makes this book so enjoyable. I believe any reader of a clean Christian romance would like these books whether a fan of Downton Abbey or not. The little background that is added from book "The Governess of Highland Hall" book 1 in the (Edwardian Brides series)  is just enough to refresh the reader's memory.  Even though this book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone but I encourage you to read book 1 so you will know William and Julia's love story.

I loved "The Governess Of Highland Hill" and "The Daughter of Highland Hall" is just as exciting!
I was hooked into this story from the first sentence!

Once again the scenery details are just enough to make you see it in your mind.

There are a few characters that makes this reader want to shake them and "yell you are a fool and why are you making life so difficult for your family members?"  Then there are the favorites from " The Governess Of Highland Hill" that you just want to reach in the book itself and give them a hug and a handshake and become friends with.

From the beginning of the story Jonathan, Julia's brother, the governess from "The Governess of Highland Hall"has an attraction for Katherine Ramsey but she isn't interested in him because she wants a marriage proposal from a titled peer with a family estate, or at least she doesn't want to admit it.  Not only does Katherine not want to accept the attraction, other family members are against the match especially Kate's Aunt Louisa!

Katherine Ramsey is in London for her debut ball and has managed to escape what could be a fatal mistake when curtsying to King George and Queen Mary and Princess Mary only to be forced out of the spotlight because of a family's member scandal.

It seems Katherine just might get the marriage proposal she wanted from Edward Wellington, but overnight all that is gone! So what can Katherine do now?

After the disgrace, Katherine has been helping Jonathan, a medical student, who is supposed to go back to India as a missionary doctor, at Daystar,a free medical clinic on the poorest side of town.

The attraction is building for both Jon and Kate but does Kate have a true commitment to Christ and will she be willing to go to India with Jon?

And in the meantime, Lydia's,one of the lady's maid, sister has runaway from home with a unsavory character and Lydia and Kate and Jon try to find and rescue her.

All these questions and others are waiting for you to find the answers in the pages of this five star book. I really didn't see the ending happening the way it did but I am certain if you invest your time into reading "The Daughter of Highland Hall" by Carrie Turansky  you will have a smile on your face when you read the last word! Yes it was that fantastic.

This is a love story but it is also a Christian novel and there are Bible verses quoted and Spiritual truths interwoven into this story which this reader enjoys.

I am already impatient for book 3 and it doesn't come available until October 2015. It is going to be a long and hard waiting period.

I was given a copy by the author  for an honest review!
