So often we struggle to communicate with others. Or we misunderstand the meaning behind their messages. This can result in hurt feelings, anger and resentment, or even broken relationships. Have you ever said to someone: “That’s not what I meant”? Have you ever misjudged someone and later found out the reason why they acted as they did?

In the AMISH TEACHER’S GIFT, widowed dad, Josiah Yoder, has a hearing-impaired son, Nathan. Josiah’s knowledge of sign language is limited. When he tries to talk to Nathan, the messages he sends upset his son, but Josiah has no idea why. Luckily, Nathan’s teacher, Ada Rupp, shows them how to communicate.

Both Ada and Josiah also have misunderstandings about each other. Some of it is because they make assumptions that aren’t true. Or they misinterpret things that are said. They, too, need to learn to communicate honestly.

Ada has struggles of her own with teaching and caring for her younger siblings. She’s carrying some heavy burdens but isn’t willing to let others help her. When she learns to trust others, she discovers the joy of sharing responsibilities with others. And she has more time for the important things.

Trust is an important part of communication. Because of the tragedies in his life, Josiah has lost his trust in God. By watching his young son’s faith, Josiah learns to trust in the Lord again and to pray, which is the most important communication of all.

My Review:                                                              "The Revolutionary: Liberate the Captives" by Kristen Hogrefe is the second book in the "The Rogues" series. I guess some readers would enjoy it as a standalone but I am glad I read the first book in the series first because "The Revolutionary" starts where the first book ends.                                    

If you like books about corrupt government and spies and revenge then this a series for you.

I think there should be a third book because this book left me with questions like, where is..... and what really happened to Portia's dad?

This novel had me questioning all throughout the book who were the good guys and who was really the enemy.

This book has violence, killing with guns and some drinking but it is a clean love story and yes I wouldn't have a problem with my teenage granddaughters read this book.

The Bible is mentioned and the story tells how a character is changed after witnessing how a character won't deny that Jesus is real. This was my favorite part of the book.

I liked reading about the different disguises and characters that Portia had to pretend to be to complete her mission.

Identity, Coffee, and a Sprinkle of History in The Revolutionary The primary purpose of fiction is to entertain, but I think good fiction goes deeper by teaching us something about human nature, something about ourselves. The Revolutionary begins three months after Portia arrived at a satellite prison camp. She feels forgotten by her brother and friends who promised to rescue her. Deeper than the physical pain of starvation, she battles the emotional rawness from the dehumanization of her identity. A number replaces her name, and the Wasps who mistreat prisoners mockingly call them “rabbits.” When a two-faced smuggler helps her escape, her identity struggles continue. She dons multiple aliases to survive and help the Brotherhood launch a daring plan to destroy the satellite camps and oust the ruling Friend and Dome. The theme of identity is one I hope will resonate with teens and adult readers alike. At some point, we all ask ourselves, “What defines me?” Is it our friends, an academic program, a relationship, or a job? While those things describe our day-to-day lives, they themselves shouldn’t define us. The source of our true identity must come from somewhere deeper. That’s the question Portia has to wrestle with, and one I hope readers will consider. A Cup of Joe Confession: One aspect of characterization I enjoy is giving my characters a small piece of myself. One of my early readers for book one, The Revisionary, remarked, “Let me guess. You like coffee.” I laughed and replied, “How could you tell?” Maybe lines like this one gave the fact away: “I start a pot of coffee. At least the aroma makes life smell better” (Portia, The Revisionary). In book two, I incorporate the memory-association of coffee for Portia as she thinks back to simpler times (like dorm life with Lydia). Coffee also serves as a catalyst for an important scene where Portia, in disguise, serves her enemies and in turn learns of their disturbing plans for the satellites. What about you? Are you a coffee drinker? If you are, I hope you’ll enjoy a giveaway opportunity for a Starbucks gift card. After all, coffee does make life smell better. A Sprinkle of History Two summers ago, my brother and I had the opportunity to visit the North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts. It’s the historical site for the “shot heard round the world” that ignited the American Revolution. In book two, Portia and the Brotherhood launch their own threadbare revolution. Though the odds are against them, they’re determined to stop the abuses by those in power. My own visit to this famous site helped inspire Portia’s journey of discovery and the Brotherhood’s fictional parallels to the American Revolutionary War. Writing the scene where she rediscovers this birthplace of liberty was one of my favorites, because I walked the North Bridge and poured over books researching what happened that fateful day. I hope the scene comes alive for my readers and quickens their interest in history and its relevance for us today.

My Review:
"Treacherous Trails" by Dana Mentink is the second novel in the "Gold Country Cowboys" series and is filled with lots of twists and danger. It could be enjoyed as a stand alone because it is Owen and Ella's story.

I liked this story better than the first one, but they are both wonderful books.

This story really had me surprised at the ending, well both books in the series did but this really did have me surprised and shocked at who the guilty person was.

This is a story of danger and violence but is more a story of loyalty and love between family members and childhood friends. It is also a story of how some vices such as love of money and gambling and fear of others can make you do evil things.

Ok, this part is a little personal to me and my family and might be a little bit of a spoiler alert but there was one scene that really made me want to stop reading this book because of the fire and talk of the characters maybe dying of smoke inhalation. I won't say anymore on this except to say I can't say if these characters died or not and that I'm glad I finished the book.

In this story both Ella and Owen learn that God's plans for their lives were better than their own hopes and plans.

If you like real danger in a clean love story then I recommend "Treacherous Trails" by Dana Mentink.

My Review

"Then The Deluge Comes" by Caryl McAdoo is volume 2 of the "The Generations"series and is Noah's story before the flood.  This story was interesting but I felt it lacked something,  it didn't tell of how Noah tried to warn others that the flood was coming. I thought the story was more a love story between all the characters, yes God is love.  I really liked  the book of the book when she explained her beliefs and gave scriptures to prove her point. She also did this at the book of book 1 " A Little Lower Than The Angels".  

I think these stories would be better understood if read in order and I think a reader would have to have some idea of the Biblical account before understanding these books. 

Like I said the book was interesting and made me rethink some things, but  I liked book one better and I have the other  two books and will be reading them. I think book 3 is about Noah and his family on the ark.

Author Interview

1. Who or what inspired you to become an author?
I was inspired to become an author during college when I first fell in love with contemporary romance novels. After witnessing many relationships fall apart in my life, I sought the philosophies of my favorite authors to help me figure out what mine were. When I began to have my own relationship experiences, I discovered I had a lot to stay about it. And I loved the idea of reaching out to someone like myself who would feel comfort and joy in the things I wrote.
2. Who are some of your favorite authors?
My list of favorite authors is endless, but to name a few are Anita Stansfield, Diana Gabaldon, Brandon Sanderson, Marissa Meyer, and Marcia Lynn McClure.

3. If you could go to tea with one of the characters from The Burnheart Redemption, who would you pick and why?
If I could go to tea with any of my characters from The Burnheart Redemption, it would definitely be Adam Garrow. Not only is he incredibly handsome, but he has a fascinating background with dozens of stories to tell, a great sense of humor, and a natural charm that would make for the best tea time conversation.

4. What inspired the idea for The Burnheart Redemption?
What first inspired The Burnheart Redemption was me and my two college roommates spending an Saturday relaxing and laughing the day away. That afternoon I had listened to the “Tangled” soundtrack, and the song “Kingdom Dance” had came on. Immediately I imagined the three of us in a regency setting dancing at a fancy ball with three dashing heroes of that time. Just for fun, I wrote a short story version for them that progressed into a full novel. And I will forever thank them for that inspiration and encouragement on that project.
5. What do you want readers to take away from reading The Burnheart Redemption?
I would love for my readers to know that the heroes in this story are based on very real men I’ve come to know in my life, who understand the meaning of respect, humility, chivalry, and sacrifice. To those readers, I hope they will take those examples I’ve written down to heart and remember that they deserve someone who also show those qualities. And of course I would hope that these fictional heroes will make them feel just as giddy as they made me.

6. What is your current WIP?  What can you tell us about it?
My current work in progress is a romantic comedy taking place at a Renaissance festival. The outline is still in the beginning stages, but it’s fun getting back into the contemporary genre and writing down all my ridiculous and amazing experiences I’ve gathered in the recent years. So expect some swoon-worthy knights in shining armor, and everything turning upside down when a metropolitan girl gets pulled into the world of medieval culture. This one is definitely dedicated to all my nerd friends who’ve made my life so much better after pulling me into their fandoms.

Behind the Scenes Facts About the Book

1. I started writing “The Burnheart Redemption” at nineteen years old. It became the first book I ever completed, and tried to publish.
2. The story took me six years to write, mainly because my writing skills were still developing, and I knew very little about romance. Growing up a little, I gained more perspective and wrote a much better version of the story that I’m proud of.
3. My main character, Adam Garrow, is based on a very real man I had a huge crush on at the time. But after six years, all three of my leading men have taken on traits of chivalrous men I’ve met throughout the years, and the book is mostly dedicated to them.
4. The story is based on a short story I wrote for my friends in college as we were all in love with pure romance novels. They also inspired characters in the book.
5. While editing the manuscript, I asked my attractive guy friends to dress as my characters and act out a few of the scenes. They even let me take their photos and publish them on my site. But this helped tremendously in better describing scenes that needed more visual detail.
6. I chose my romantic settings to be an apple orchard because it was where I always pictured my first kiss to be growing. Turns out my first kiss never came close to it, but still fun to write about.
7. When I first decided to give Ian O’Connor Irish origins, it had to do with my friend insisting I’d find a tall, dark and handsome man with an Irish accent to sweep me off my feet. So if not in real life, definitely vicariously through my imagination. 
8. Solana Rosenlund is the leading heroine of the story, who has a younger sister name Faye. Though she’s a side character, she’s who I can identify with the most. Whereas Solana is who I’d wish more to be like as far as spirit and bravery goes.
9. Fun fact: The guy who dressed as Adam and took picture for the character profile on my website, I was actually dating at the time. During the editing process, a day before the submission deadline, I was no where near finished and stressed out of my mind. In my moment of need, he heroically rush over with a chocolate smoothie. After a much need hug and swoon-worthy kiss, I was inspired enough to crank out twenty more pages and hit “submit” just in time. Definitely one of my fondest memories.

Not only is he incredibly handsome, but he has a fascinating background with dozens of stories to tell, a great sense of humor, and a natural charm that would make for the best tea time conversation.

4. What inspired the idea for The Burnheart Redemption?
What first inspired The Burnheart Redemption was me and my two college roommates spending an Saturday relaxing and laughing the day away. That afternoon I had listened to the “Tangled” soundtrack, and the song “Kingdom Dance” had came on. Immediately I imagined the three of us in a regency setting dancing at a fancy ball with three dashing heroes of that time. Just for fun, I wrote a short story version for them that progressed into a full novel. And I will forever thank them for that inspiration and encouragement on that project.
5. What do you want readers to take away from reading The Burnheart Redemption?
I would love for my readers to know that the heroes in this story are based on very real men I’ve come to know in my life, who understand the meaning of respect, humility, chivalry, and sacrifice. To those readers, I hope they will take those examples I’ve written down to heart and remember that they deserve someone who also show those qualities. And of course I would hope that these fictional heroes will make them feel just as giddy as they made me.

6. What is your current WIP?  What can you tell us about it?
My current work in progress is a romantic comedy taking place at a Renaissance festival. The outline is still in the beginning stages, but it’s fun getting back into the contemporary genre and writing down all my ridiculous and amazing experiences I’ve gathered in the recent years. So expect some swoon-worthy knights in shining armor, and everything turning upside down when a metropolitan girl gets pulled into the world of medieval culture. This one is definitely dedicated to all my nerd friends who’ve made my life so much better after pulling me into their fandoms.

Behind the Scenes Facts About the Book

1. I started writing “The Burnheart Redemption” at nineteen years old. It became the first book I ever completed, and tried to publish.
2. The story took me six years to write, mainly because my writing skills were still developing, and I knew very little about romance. Growing up a little, I gained more perspective and wrote a much better version of the story that I’m proud of.
3. My main character, Adam Garrow, is based on a very real man I had a huge crush on at the time. But after six years, all three of my leading men have taken on traits of chivalrous men I’ve met throughout the years, and the book is mostly dedicated to them.
4. The story is based on a short story I wrote for my friends in college as we were all in love with pure romance novels. They also inspired characters in the book.
5. While editing the manuscript, I asked my attractive guy friends to dress as my characters and act out a few of the scenes. They even let me take their photos and publish them on my site. But this helped tremendously in better describing scenes that needed more visual detail.
6. I chose my romantic settings to be an apple orchard because it was where I always pictured my first kiss to be growing. Turns out my first kiss never came close to it, but still fun to write about.
7. When I first decided to give Ian O’Connor Irish origins, it had to do with my friend insisting I’d find a tall, dark and handsome man with an Irish accent to sweep me off my feet. So if not in real life, definitely vicariously through my imagination. 
8. Solana Rosenlund is the leading heroine of the story, who has a younger sister name Faye. Though she’s a side character, she’s who I can identify with the most. Whereas Solana is who I’d wish more to be like as far as spirit and bravery goes.
9. Fun fact: The guy who dressed as Adam and took picture for the character profile on my website, I was actually dating at the time. During the editing process, a day before the submission deadline, I was no where near finished and stressed out of my mind. In my moment of need, he heroically rush over with a chocolate smoothie. After a much need hug and swoon-worthy kiss, I was inspired enough to crank out twenty more pages and hit “submit” just in time. Definitely one of my fondest memories.

Review

"The Burnheart Redemption" by Chelsea Curran is a novel full of conspiracy, sabotage, and kidnapping. It is also a clean love story. I wanted to finish this book in a hurry because I just had to know how it ended. Every page just kept me reading. This is the first book by Chelsea Curran that I have read but now I have added her other book to my to be read list. This is a story that shows that secrets kept aren't always in the best interest of those they involve. I think one reason I liked this story was one of the main characters learns a secret and the subject of this secret is very dear to me as I have 4 grandsons by adoption. The scenes are written so well that I could imagine watching them in a movie instead of just reading them. I recommend "The Burnheart Redemption" by Chelsea Curran if you like stories with action, adventure, danger, romance and masked men and pirates and laugh out loud scenes. This is a clean read but a character uses the word hell twice and a character gets drunk but I would still recommend the book.
