About the Book

TheirDaringHearts2
Author: Sharlene MacLaren
Genre: Christian Historical Romance (Civil War)
Release Date: Jan 9, 2018
Levi Albright rebelled against his Quaker roots to fight for abolition in the Union army in the first year of the Civil War. Two years later, 19-year-old destitute orphan Josephine Winters, with her chopped hair, boy’s clothes, and new name, “Snipp,” enlists in the Union army out of desperation.
Just over five feet tall and barely weighing as much as a newborn calf, Snipp seems to Levi to be barely old enough to hold “his” gun. But despite being teased by the regiment, Snipp quickly earns admiration for skill with a musket and unequaled bravery. When Levi explains one night that he is a Quaker leading a regiment, it leads to a late-night discussion of faith and a developing friendship.
But Snipp’s secret can only be hidden for so long. After an injury forces Josie to reveal her real identity, Levi is angered by her deception. Worse, Josie is marched out of the company without a chance to explain—or even say goodbye. Will their friendship survive? Or will the hatred saturating the war-torn nation affect even the heart of a peace-loving Quaker?

My Review:                                                          "Their Daring Hearts" by Sharlene Maclaren is book two in the "Forever Freedom" series. It is a story of courage and how the characters stood up and did what they believed in even though it was dangerous. When Josie joins the army as a male, she doesn't realizes that she is going to have to over come more than hiding her real identify because she becomes a target for someone with a personal resentment against the army.                                                                                                                          I am glad the author portrayed the hardships the soldiers endured pretty accurately without a lot of graphic details. I think this series would make a good family movie. I was really surprised that the men accepted Josie, aka Snipp, as well as they did, maybe I am more surprised that Josie could act out her role as a male as well as she did. There were a few that was questioning that she had no facial hair. I am glad that Levi showed others God's love without being preachy about it because I believe the way to show God's love to others is to live it and not preach it.This book is about war and love and betrayal and acceptance and change.                                                                                                      I recommend this series to anyone that wants a realistic account of war without gory details, yes there is violence but nothing gory. I also recommend it to anyone that wants a clean love story and a story about how two people helped the suffering during war time. I know this is a work of fiction but it could have happen like the author wrote it. This book is also has a mystery, is there a spy in the company and if so who and why?                                                                                                                           Ok. guess I better stop reviewing before I give away spoiler alerts! I will just say " if you read this book" I think you will be like me and say I want to read more about Josie and Levi and Company B. I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These options are my own.
