My Review:
"9 Traits of a Life-Giving Marriage: How to Build a Relationship That Lasts" by Sue Detweiler is a book that I strongly recommend to anyone that needs encouragement and hope for their marriage. I have to admit that I only requested this book because I am on the review team for CWA and I have read most of the books available and really thought I am not going to like reading this but I was so wrong, I actually did like it and it has given me hope for my own marriage.

There are prayers after each of the nine traits. The author stresses that each partner needs to be committed to Jesus and not try to change the other person.

My favorite sentence in the entire book is when the author states that if there are no disagreements or arguments in a marriage, then at least one of the spouses aren't being completely honest. I think this struck me the most because I have had preachers and other tell me that they never argue and I thought that is so not true because anything don't like the same things.

The author is very honest and tells her story, I think that is why this book is so encouraging, it makes the reader think if a pastor and his wife can have these struggles and overcome, then maybe I can too.

The traits cover in this book are acceptance, friendship, safety, honesty, intimacy, passion, endurance, expectancy.

I also like that the fact that the author covers topics like pornography and affairs and abuse, both physical and emotionally. She also covers the fact that even if you do end up getting divorced, God still loves you.

This is a book that could change marriages, I think it would be really helpful if both husbands and wives read this book together.
I was given a complimentary copy by the author and CWA. These opinions are my own.
