"Breaking Toxic Soul Ties: Healing from Unhealthy and Controlling Relationships" by Tom Brown Book Tour and GiveAway

About the Book

Title: Breaking Toxic Soul Ties: Healing from Unhealthy and Controlling Relationships
Author: Tom Brown
Genre: Non-fiction, relationships
Release Date: January 9, 2018

Going through this world in relationship with other people inevitably creates connections in our inner being called soul ties. When these relationships are loving, supportive, and nurturing, positive soul ties are created. But if the relationships become abusive or manipulative, or cause rejection, they can create a toxic brokenness within the soul that we carry with us, even long after the relationship ends. If these toxic inner soul ties are not broken, we will experience failure, fractured relationships, and even health problems throughout life. In Breaking Toxic Soul Ties, Tom Brown describes his own story of rejection and the process of inner healing he experienced. He helps you to identify and diagnose toxic relationships as he breaks down the difference between positive and negative soul ties. He also shows why toxic soul ties develop and how they can only be broken by a process of inner healing through confession, forgiveness, and prayer. The truth is, unless your self-image is firmly rooted in the truth of your identity in Christ, you will always be susceptible to bad soul ties. Tom Brown describes the way for you to move forward in life and leave pain and brokenness behind for good!

My Review:
"Breaking Toxic Soul Ties: Healing from Unhealthy and Controlling Relationships" by Tom Brown is a book about unhealthy soul ties. So the title is really appropriate for this book. It explains that the most helpful thing to do to break away from these unhealthy ties is to forgive.

The book describes five kinds of manipulations, I was surprised to learn that silent treatment was one, I always thought it was best not to say anything but the author says, "If you play with them using the silent treatment, you only torment yourself and prolong the problem in your relationship. Stop making yourself miserable, let the other person be miserable, be honest, do you really have fun being angry and not communicating with people you love? Of course not, it's a miserable feeling so be the opposite, You be nice and speak kindly." Page 31 in the book. I shared this one form from the book because I am most familiar with it, and yes, I have used it, not realizing it was wrong, I used it as a  form of protection against more hurt, but in reality it just brought more hurt.

The author tells the reader not to let people's view of them affect their confidence of how God views them, and you  know we all have seen on Facebook posts how other opinion's of us don't matter because in the end God's is the only one that counts, and you know we really ought to believe this, how much better our lives would be, not only for us but for those around us. The author says that ungodly soul ties are strengthened when you fear others. If you no longer fear people, you will no longer let them treat you like trash, we are to love them and pray for them but not be concerned with their view of us.

The author says that there is no worse disease than a broken heart. Unhealthy soul ties causes a broken heart.

At the end of the book, the author has written a prayer that he suggests you go to an elder or a pastor to lead you in to help you heal from unhealthy soul ties. The author also shares about a time when he felt rejection and goes on to tell how that was actually a good thing.

I recommend "Breaking Toxic Soul Ties: Healing from Unhealthy and Controlling Relationships" by Tom Brown to everyone that has any contact with anyone, so if you are alive then I recommend you read this as everyone alive has contact with others.

I am going to look into other books on soul ties, because while this book was excellent, I feel that it was just an introduction into the subject.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.
